The Facilities Associate ensures that our school buildings are well-maintained, clean, and safe for our students, staff, and families. Facilities support tasks include building repairs and maintenance, supporting our custodial staff with adequate supplies, and coordinating with our building managers to ensure we are in compliance with all safety codes and regulations. The Facilities Associate reports to the Facilities Manager and will receive supervision from school leaders on site as needed.
Facilities Maintenance and Repairs:
· Maintain a beautiful school facility reflective of the excellence and high standards we expect for our students, identifying problem areas and correcting them urgently.
· Coordinate with ICS’ facilities team and any outside vendors as needed to ensure the school building is safe, fully operational, and a comfortable environment for learning.
· Troubleshoot day to day repairs and maintenance for essential equipment such as HVAC, plumbing, and essential electrical systems, understanding when to call in expert vendors.
· Replace light bulbs and fixtures that need repair; adjust ceiling tiles that may pop out of place due to regular wear and tear from student activities.
· Assemble new furniture, and repair any furniture that needs adjusting. Move furniture between rooms or building locations as directed by school administration.
· Assist our custodial team with occasional cleaning, sanitizing, and removal of trash (ex: bulk items) throughout our campuses
· Audit and maintain inventory of day-to-day supplies to maintain a clean and beautiful facility, such as adequate paper towels, toilet paper, Lysol wipes, cleaning supplies and anything else needed to ensure a tidy and beautiful school building.
· Support building staff in accepting, unloading, and distributing mail, supplies, and other deliveries
· Track progress of repairs and other maintenance projects (via Asana) and keep records of repairs and upkeep
· Ensure compliance with building and fire codes by assisting in regular inspections and maintenance
· Ensure doors, locks, keypads/fobs and other security mechanisms are functioning properly
· Identify and report pest control issues, and coordinate with exterminators as needed
· Ensure all school signage is clear and visible; make repairs as needed
· Support the setup and breakdown of items (ex: furniture) for school events, meetings, and special activities.
Competencies & Qualifications
· High school diploma or equivalent required
· Essential knowledge of plumbing, electrical systems, HVAC, and general repairs/a “handyman’s” skill set
· Detail oriented, with the ability to follow through to ensure smooth day to day operations.
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with students, parents, staff, and colleagues within and outside of ICS.
· A “whatever it takes” attitude, with a willingness to roll up your sleeves for any task
· A customer service mindset, with the ability to respond quickly and effectively to staff
· Tech skills: proficiency with Google suite, Asana, and other essential tech platforms for day to day communication (i.e. texting, email).
· Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
· Ability to safely and perform physical tasks such as moving furniture and equipment
· Be comfortable working around and with students, maintaining standards of professionalism and understanding you are a mentor and model at all times
