The Certified Coding Specialist analyzes relevant clinical and demographic information from the Health Information record, assigns appropriate ICD-10 codes following appropriate guidelines and ascertains that the above are compliant with CMS, state and other regulatory agencies

(Minimum education, training and experience, licensure, certification)
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, coding and application
- Knowledge and understanding of disease process and etiology
- Knowledge of various computer applications including Windows, Excel, hospital information systems and encoders
- One of the following:
- RHIA: Registered Health Information Administrator Certification (requires Bachelor Degree)
- RHIT: Registered Heath Information Technologist Certification (requires Associate Degree)
- CCS: Certified Coding Specialist Certification
- CPC: Certified Professional Coder
- Other AHIMA and AAPC coding/billing related certifications will be considered
- Must be able to communicate effectively in English (Oral/Written)
