The Program Director of Patient Safety plans, organizes and proactively leads the patient safety activities of a large multi-site facility. The Program Director is responsible for deployment of system-wide safety initiatives at the facility, providing subject matter expertise and collaboration with the leaders of Quality, Infection Prevention, and others on joint efforts at the facility. The Program Director of Patient Safety reports directly to the Director of Patient Safety for the INTEGRIS Health enterprise.

The Program Director of Patient Safety responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Participates and contributes to development of system program activities.
  • Implement facility application of clinical, quality, safety and infection prevention guidelines and procedures.
  • Apply defined processes to:
    • Promote evidence-based medicine,
    • Report on outcome measures, and
    • Coordinate patient-centered care delivery.
  • Implement performance measure metrics to ensure achievement of clinical performance standards.
  • Coordinates and supports facility committees to communicate aggregated data, trends and action plans.
  • Analyzes clinical outcomes data and collaborates with leadership to develop, maintain and sustain structure and process that promotes standardization of practice and addresses quality and safety deficits.
  • Develop and implement strategies to support organizational initiatives.
  • Manages program in accordance with regulatory guidelines and reports to appropriate committees as mandated.
  • Supports on-site visits by state/federal and other regulatory/licensing agencies which includes arranging meetings with staff and obtaining documents requested.
  • Provides educational resources, support and consulting services to departments in matters related to infection prevention, quality, or patient safety, including culture of safety training for caregivers, providers, leaders and others.
  • Assures organizational understanding of regulatory, licensing, and accrediting requirements and implication of non-compliance.
  • Analyzes actual and potential claims/risks at INTEGRIS facilities as identified by the risk management activities/quality assessment process.
  • Assures the highest degree of compliance to the incident reporting procedures.
  • Performs investigation, review, analysis and disposition of infection and patient safety events through the event review structure.
  • Facilitates cause analysis of actual or near miss events.
  • Cultivates and maintains professional relationships with primary customers including operational, clinical and physician leaders, physicians, caregivers, patients, vendors, and external entities to foster opportunities for improvement in metrics related to quality, safety, patient experience.
  • Develops and manages budget and ensures fiscal accountability and achievement of financial goals and results.

Ensures department staff are managed effectively, including hiring, coaching, evaluating performance and competency.


Education and Experience:

  • Minimum – Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Minimum – Five (5) years healthcare setting experience, acute care setting preferred.
  • Minimum - Experience in patient safety, risk management, infection prevention, and/or developing and implementing clinical quality and/or process improvement initiatives.
  • Minimum – Three (3) years consultation or leadership experience

Certifications and licensure:

  • Minimum – Active and current clinical licensure
  • Preferred – Certification in healthcare safety or similar. If not certified, will be required as part of professional improvement plan within three years.
  • Preferred – Certification, knowledge, or expertise with performance improvement/CQI methodologies (e.g., Continuous Improvement, Lean Six Sigma).
  • Preferred – Current knowledge of accreditation and regulatory requirements for acute care services.

Other Requirements:

  • This position may have additional or varied physical demand and/or respiratory fit test requirements.
  • Frequent changes of work assignment and interruptions.
  • Work setting will generally be office setting; however, work may require working extra hours or atypical work hours. Role often requires work in other departments which may be noisy and crowded.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English (Verbal/Written).

Proficient in EHR and other common computer applications (i.e., Microsoft Word, Teams, Excel, PowerPoint and others, as identified)
