The Respiratory Care Associate provides a limited variety of therapeutic respiratory care services in accordance with the Oklahoma Respiratory Care Practice Act, regulated by the Oklahoma State Board of Medical Licensure and Supervision. This position requires specific competencies. Adheres to National Patient Safety Goals as appropriate based on the level of patient contact this position requires. The Respiratory Care Associate RCA responsibilities include, but not limited to, the following:
- Responsible for patient care on general floor care areas, excluding all critical patients, except under direct observations, e.g. assisting the therapist.
- Under strict supervision institutes a limited variety of diagnostic and therapeutic respiratory care services to various patient types (geriatric/adult/pediatric/neonatal), i.e. IPPB, aerosol therapy, chest physiotherapy, oxygen therapy, pulse oximetry, sputum collection, CPR and airway management techniques, manual resuscitation, non-invasive ventilator support, transport support, and pharmaceutical agent delivery.
- Transport equipment and supplies to patient care areas as needed. Reports to Director of Respiratory Care and/or Respiratory Team Leader This position may have additional or varied physical demand and/or respiratory fit test requirements. Please consult the Physical Demands Project SharePoint site or contact Risk Management/Employee Health for additional information. Moderate exposure to hazardous risk, including potential for exposure to infections and communicable diseases, blood and body fluids, electrical equipment, and chemicals. Potential bodily injury related to lifting and workplace violence. Must follow universal precautions. Exposed to constant interruptions, noise, disagreeable odors, and assorted chemicals. May have multiple floors per shift. May be required to be on call status. - Requires the incumbent be currently attending an accredited respiratory program and hold a Provisional Respiratory Care Practitioner license issued by the Oklahoma Board of Medical Licensure and Supervision (OSBMLS). The incumbent may work under a temporary letter to practice issued by the OSBMLS until the board meets to issue their Provisional Respiratory Care Practitioner license.
- Must provide a copy of the verification of Student Status form required to obtain their Provisional license. The school instructor must complete the Student Task Proficiency List on this form
- Must be able to communicate effectively in English (Verbal/Written).
