The Ultrasound Technologist operates advanced ultrasound equipment, performs complex technical procedures, and assumes responsibility for patient care in the designated area. This role requires population-specific competencies and adherence to National Patient Safety Goals based on the level of patient interaction.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform general ultrasound procedures
- Conduct 2D, pulsed wave Doppler, color flow Doppler evaluations on upper and lower extremities for arterial and venous systems, visceral vascular, and carotid imaging
- Review in-patient requisitions, prioritize patient lists, and adjust schedules as needed
- Develop high-quality images through automatic processing and manipulate laser printers as required
- Maintain quality control checks on processors and generate monthly reports
- Manage supply procurement, storage, and routing for room preparation
Echocardiography Duties:
- Perform echocardiography on adults and pediatric patients
- Conduct peripheral vascular procedures
Lakeside Women's Hospital Specific Responsibilities:
- Ensure instruments are decontaminated and stored according to proper processes and guidelines
- Complete sterilization procedures per manufacturer instructions and hospital protocols
- Prepare and document sterilization process charts, logs, and records
- Participate in high-level disinfectant process education annually
Breast Sonographer Responsibilities:
- Perform breast ultrasound procedures
- Review patient relevant previous imaging exams before the breast sonography exam
- Acquire clinical history from patients
- Correlate physical findings with adjunct imaging modalities
- Optimize breast sonography exams using doppler, color doppler, and panoramic imaging as necessary
- Provide imaging assistance to radiologists for interventional breast ultrasound procedures
This position reports to the Lead Ultrasound Technologist and/or Manager/Director. The successful candidate must possess the ability to communicate effectively in English (written/verbal) and meet the following requirements:
- Current certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
- Ability to obtain current RDMS, RDCS, or RVT certification within 12 months of hire date
- Diagnostic Cardiology: Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) registry accepted
- Successful completion of an Allied Health post-secondary education program that is patient-care related or equivalent experience
- Bachelor's degree preferred
- Current CPR certification required within 90 days of hire
