Lighthouse Academy South campus is seeking an EL Interventionist for the 2024-25 school year. If you are interested in working with at-risk youth and are called to make a difference in the life of a student, this is the position for you! We are considering applicants who hold a valid Michigan teaching certificate with English as a Second Language (NS) K-12 endorsement.

General Purpose: The English Language (EL) Interventionist will be responsible for implementation of district-wide systems, structures, and protocols to improve teaching and learning of English Learner (EL) students. The interventionist will collaborate with building and district leadership to develop understanding of effective EL programming, English Language Development instructional practices, and effective content area scaffolding techniques. This individual will be a member of the District team, which consists of school leadership, classroom teachers, instructional support staff, school social workers and the administrative assistant. This individual will subscribe to the vision, mission and values of Integrity Educational Services and the applicable academy.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Assist in implementation of common systems for identifying ELs (including processes for gathering information from previous schools), teach those systems to appropriate school staff, and ensure the systems are implemented with fidelity.

2. Support schools with identification, placement, and annual progress monitoring of ELs. Provide support with annual assessments including placement and annual language proficiency assessments.

3. Assist in data collection and analysis to monitor ELL programming and student academic success during and after receiving ELL services. Ensure school leaders and classroom teachers are utilizing data to inform instruction, group students, and target skills and strategies for instruction.

4. Assist in the development and design of curriculum resources and tools that assist content teachers in supporting student mastery of content-specific standards. Collaborate with other district departments to increase knowledge of effective ELL practices in all content area instruction and intervention by meeting in small groups, one-on-one consultation, and professional development.

5. Provide leadership in the development of ELL programming and scaffolded content instruction through data analysis of ELL performance and knowledge of current ELL research.

6. Support ESL instruction (push-in and pull-out) for English Learners in all grade levels.

7. Collaborate with school leaders and classroom teachers to support students through a variety of strategies, including co-teaching and pushing into classrooms. Help plan units and lessons to meet the needs of individual students and groups.

8. Develop and facilitate ongoing, differentiated professional development for ELL practitioners, general education teachers, administrators, and special service providers regarding best practices in English language development, scaffolded instruction, district initiatives, and assessment (WIDA).

9. Respond to teacher, school, parent, and community needs including informal requests regarding policies, procedures, and programming for EL students.

10. Identify program needs (e.g. instructional materials and equipment, etc.) for the purpose of providing input that will enhance the EL program. Research the selection of ELL instructional materials along with school leadership and the district instructional leaders, contribute to the process for adopting instructional materials.

11. Collaborate with district Student Advocates and school leaders to assure that ELs receive appropriate accommodations on district and state assessments.

12. Maintain and develop professional skills and knowledge of ELL issues and techniques by attending district meetings, conferences, researching, networking, reading, and through continuing education.

13. Trains others to proctor and proctors, when necessary, required language proficiency and academic achievement tests for determining placement for students. This includes the WIDA test given to all ELL students.

14. Monitors student progress, including monitoring FLEP students for two years.

15. Maintains database of ELL and ELL-eligible students. Screens or trains and monitors others to screen incoming students with the W-APT test to determine program placement. Assists in completing ELL accommodations forms and ELL progress reports for students.

16. Assists in developing language acquisition support plans (ELL plans) for all ELL students and work with classroom teachers to implement plans.

17. Assists in completing ELL Accommodations forms and ELL Progress Reports for students.

18. Assists in gathering and reporting data for reporting requirements and other required reports (to the State, School Board, Department of Education, census, grant applications, annual report, etc.). Assists in presenting progress monitoring/requests information to the board for approval.

19. Monitors and support classrooms.

20. Assists with establishing and maintaining communication with parents of students in the program. Ensures parents and families are actively involved in their child’s learning.

21. Attends IEP, Section 504, and/or other related meetings necessary for ELL student assessment and/or compliance with federal and/or state law.

22. Attends and participates in established traditional school-sponsored activities (i.e, back-to school night, open house, and other activities customarily attended by classroom teachers and/or faculty members), which may be outside of regular school hours and parent-teacher conferences.

23. Assist in the creation and updating of the ELL handbook and ELL brochure.

24. Perform all other duties, as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: The minimum qualifications needed to perform the essential functions of the job such as education, experience, competencies, knowledge and skills are listed below.

Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, ability or competence required.

Education and/or Experience: Certified teacher with NS endorsement or pursuing the NS endorsement.

Language Skills: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to students, parents, and other employees of the organization.

Mathematic Skills: Ability to do simple computations, calculate percentages, and use a calculator.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. Excellent organizational and time management skills. Ability to work as a part of a team.

Computer Skills: Knowledge of Microsoft and/or Google applications and/or willingness to learn needed computer skills specific to this position.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Valid Michigan teaching certification with applicable endorsements, if required for the specific position. Must meet highly qualified status according to the Michigan Department of Education for the subjects being taught.

Training: Must participate in and complete annual training, Professional Development, and various other training as deemed appropriate for position.

Other Qualifications: Must pass criminal history records search, physical and drug screen, if required.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $43,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
