Position Summary:
The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the nursing care provided to a group of patients. This role leads the nursing team in collaboration with the attending physician and other healthcare providers to ensure patient care aligns with the philosophy and policies of the healthcare organization. The RN plays a key role in fostering an environment that promotes patient, family, physician, and employee satisfaction, all while ensuring patient safety, quality outcomes, and customer satisfaction.
Scope of Service:
The Registered Nurse provides care to individuals and groups requiring specialized knowledge, judgment, and skill, derived from biological, physical, behavioral, social, spiritual/cultural, and nursing sciences. The RN will operate within the full scope of nursing practice in compliance with the state licensure board and hospital accrediting bodies.
Key Responsibilities:
Patient- & Family-Centered Care:
- Recognize patients or designees as partners in providing compassionate and coordinated care based on respect for preferences, values, and needs.
- Engage patients and their families in active partnerships to promote health, safety, well-being, and self-care management.
- Address patient/family education needs considering comprehension and learning styles.
- Ensure smooth transitions across care settings and facilitate communication between patients, families, and healthcare providers.
Evidence-Based Practice:
- Integrate current evidence with clinical expertise and patient/family preferences for optimal healthcare delivery.
- Develop individualized care plans based on evidence, patient values, and clinical expertise.
Nursing Practice:
- Assess, formulate nursing diagnoses, plan, and evaluate the effectiveness of individualized nursing care.
- Analyze and prioritize patient needs, exercising critical thinking and sound judgment.
- Administer medications and execute regimens as authorized by licensure.
Safety and Quality Improvement:
- Minimize patient and healthcare team risk by applying safety protocols and quality improvement strategies.
- Participate in unit-based quality improvement and evidence-based practice projects.
- Report safety concerns and events, including near misses.
Informatics & Technology:
- Use technology to manage information and mitigate errors in decision-making and communication.
- Document patient care and progress in a timely and accurate manner within the electronic health record.
Communication, Teamwork & Collaboration:
- Foster open communication and mutual respect with patients, families, and healthcare teams.
- Collaborate effectively with the healthcare team to ensure comprehensive patient care.
Leadership & Professionalism:
- Influence positive behaviors within the team to promote effective goal establishment and system improvement.
- Participate in healthcare teams aimed at improving patient care and satisfaction.
- Integrate leadership skills to facilitate communication and facilitate change.
Systems-Based Practice:
- Organize and deliver patient care based on hospital systems and practices.
- Participate in practices endorsed at the healthcare system level and ensure effective patient hand-offs.
Required Qualifications:
- Education:
- The RN must complete 25 contact hours of continuing education during each licensure period, including at least 2 hours related to pain management and at least 1 hour related to implicit bias training.
- Licensure & Certification:
- Current state license as a Registered Nurse (RN).
- Current CPR certification.
- Specialty certifications as required.
- Experience:
- Strong clinical skills and experience in acute care nursing.
- BSN required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Education:
- BSN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing) preferred.
Working Conditions:
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE):
- Adheres to standard precautions and appropriate PPE usage.
- Physical Demands:
- Ability to work in environments with exposure to chemicals, temperature changes, bloodborne pathogens, and bodily fluids.
- Ability to perform tasks such as moving, lifting, or carrying patients or equipment, standing for long periods, and performing physical activities like bending, squatting, or kneeling.
