Position Summary:
The Registered Nurse (Acute Care) is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the nursing care provided to a group of patients. As a leader of the nursing team, you will collaborate with other healthcare providers and the attending physician to provide patient-centered care. You will actively foster an environment of satisfaction for patients, families, physicians, and employees, ensuring that care decisions are aligned with a patient and family-centered care philosophy.
Scope of Service:
The RN will deliver care based on specialized knowledge, skill, and judgment derived from the principles of biological, physical, behavioral, social, and nursing sciences. As part of your nursing practice, you will work within the full scope of nursing practice as defined by the Board of Nursing in Michigan and the hospital’s accrediting bodies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Patient- & Family-Centered Care:
- Recognize the patient or designee as a full partner in their care.
- Engage patients or designated surrogates in active partnerships to promote health, safety, and self-care management.
- Communicate and provide education to patients and families, considering individual learning styles and comprehension.
- Evidence-Based Practice:
- Integrate best current evidence with clinical expertise and patient/family preferences to deliver optimal health care.
- Base care plans on clinical expertise, patient values, and evidence.
- Nursing Practice:
- Formulate individualized care plans, evaluate their effectiveness, and continually reassess the patient’s needs.
- Prioritize patient problems and use critical thinking to make decisions.
- Safety and Quality Improvement:
- Enhance healthcare system safety and quality by minimizing risk and improving patient care processes.
- Apply technology and standardized practices to support safety and quality.
- Actively participate in unit-based quality improvement projects and research.
- Communication & Teamwork:
- Foster open communication with patients, families, and the healthcare team.
- Function as the coordinator of patient care and communicate effectively with other team members.
- Leadership & Professionalism:
- Use leadership skills to promote communication, systems thinking, and facilitate change.
- Participate in improving patient care, work environment, and staff satisfaction.
- Supervise and delegate tasks to ancillary personnel, ensuring the achievement of patient care goals.
- Systems-Based Practice:
- Contribute to system-level practices for delivering patient care.
- Participate in bedside report/hand-offs and ensure meaningful hourly rounding.
Must-Haves:
- Must have completed twenty-five contact hours of continuing education during your licensure period, including:
- At least 2 contact hours related to pain and pain symptom management.
- At least 1 hour of contact hours related to implicit bias training.
- Current State license as a Registered Nurse in Michigan (Required).
- Current CPR certification (Required).
- BSN degree (Required).
Required Qualifications:
- Education:
- BSN degree (Required).
- Completion of 25 contact hours of continuing education during licensure, including 2 hours in pain management and 1 hour in implicit bias training (Required).
- License/Certification:
- Current Registered Nurse License in Michigan (Required).
- Current CPR certification (Required).
- Skills:
- Proficient in nursing process and clinical practices.
- Ability to handle critical situations effectively.
- Competent in basic nursing skills and evaluation of daily practice.
- Effective communication with patients, families, and healthcare teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
