We are looking for a skilled CNC Machinist / Programmer for our client in Norfolk, VA. The CNC Machinist / Programmer will be responsible for ensuring all products are to specific specifications and standards set forth by customers’ orders.

Expertise in programming machine setup , machining applications, programming (g-code), process planning, precision measurement, inspection, print reading, cutting tool selection and assembly, machine maintenance and shop & personal safety.

Excellent interpersonal skills and communication
Required Experience :
Production of machined parts by programming and operating a computer numerical control (CNC) machine specifically lathes, vertical mills, and horizontal boring mills.
Use of CNC modules to design materials based on blueprints or programmed command sequences.
Modification of machines with attachments, fixtures, or specialized tooling to achieve different production capabilities.
Set up and maintain machine operations, lubricate workpieces, and replace dull cutting tools.
Monitor and adjustment of machine controls manually if programming proves inaccurate or machine is malfunctioning.
Preserve quality and safety standards by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
Plan machining by studying work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, orthographic drawings, reference planes, locations of surfaces, and machining parameters; interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T).
Programing mills and lathes by entering instructions, including zero and reference points; setting tool registers, offsets, compensation, and conditional switches; calculating requirements, including basic math, geometry, and trigonometry; proving part programs.
Set-up of mills and lathes by installing and adjusting three- and four-jaw chucks, tools, attachments, collets, bushings, cams, gears, stops, and stock pushers; indicating vices; tramming heads.
Loading feed mechanism by lifting stock into position.
Verification of settings by measuring positions, first-run part, and sample workpieces, adhering to international standards.
Maintain specifications by observing drilling, grooving, and cutting, including turning, facing, knurling and thread chasing operations; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; adjusting and reprogramming controls; sharpening and replacing worn tools; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes.
Complete preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs.
Documentation of actions by completing production and quality logs
Qualifications :
4 years' experience working as CNC Machinist / Programmer
High school diploma, equivalent and / or post-secondary certification required
Expertise with CNC calculating, computer aided design (CAD), and computer aided manufacturing (CAM) software
Proficiency in SmartCam , MasterCam or equivalent offline machine programming applications
