What are the responsibilities and job description for the Tool and Die Maker position at Intek Plastics?
*2nd shift position.
As our Tool Maker, you will build, modify, and maintain tooling to support all of Intek's functions. Every day you will be working with mills, lathes, and wire EDM's to provide quality tooling. To thrive in this role, you will need knowledge of both manual and CNC equipment as well as a driven, hand's on work ethic.
Major Areas of Responsibility:
- Constructs, repairs, and maintains a wide variety of tools, dies, jigs, gauges, and fixtures.
- Sets up and operates WEDM.
- Sets up and operates CNC Mill.
- Uses CAD/CAM to provide programming for CNC equipment.
- Instructs new or developing shop personnel in equipment operations and shop practices.
- Maintains cleanliness and organization in the shop environment.
- Participates in company safety and developmental training as assigned.
- Actively contributes to toolroom culture, supporting continuous improvement initiatives.
- Constructs tooling to specification in a timely manner.
- Demonstrates sound prioritization techniques.
- Every employee is expected to support the INTEK Quality Management System (QMS) in accordance with our Quality System Manual and Documented Procedure.
- Performs other accountabilities as apparent or assigned.
Qualifications
Education/Experience
- Technical College - Machine/Tool Processes Program or equivalent in experience.
- Four years of experience in a Tool Maker role is desired.
Skills
- Basic computer skills required
- Ability to successfully work within a team environment
- Knowledge of Tool Room Machine Operations required
- CNC Mill - Conversational Programming helpful
- Wire EDM - Set-Up/Operation helpful
- CNC Mill - CAD/CAM Programming helpful
Physical Requirements
- Ability to regularly lift (weekly) up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, reach, twist and carry tools or materials over the course of 8 – 10 hour shift; while supporting 24-hour/5-day per week plant operations.
- Regular, predictable attendance is an essential function of this position.

We select our initial pay range based on reliable compensation survey data. Other factors we consider in setting the specific pay for an individual will generally include, among other things, experience, specialized skills, work location, and internal equity to provide competitive offers.
