We are seeking an Industrial Engineering Intern to join our team. You will contribute to process improvements, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and gain hands-on experience in data analysis, standards development, and field operations. This internship provides valuable exposure to engineering projects in a dynamic logistics environment.
Responsibilities
Assist in analyzing and improving operational flows and automation strategies across sites to enhance sorting and loading processes.
Collaborate with teams during the design, testing, and implementation phases of new or relocated stations.
Contribute to the development of operating standards and support continuous improvement initiatives.
Assist in improving manual sorting processes by enhancing ergonomics, material handling equipment, and safety protocols.
Help analyze throughput, operational costs, and quality metrics to define sorting thresholds based on various factors.
Support operations and procurement teams in evaluating and selecting material handling equipment.
Utilize AutoCAD to create, modify, and optimize technical drawings for industrial projects.
Perform quick engineering calculations to support project designs and ensure feasibility.
Understanding and adhering to warehouse layout principles, including optimized flow of goods, equipment placement, and ergonomic considerations.
Assist in researching and liaising with automation providers to explore new solutions.
Participate in field visits to delivery stations and sortation hubs to observe operations and gather insights
Assist Engineering team in providing recommendations during the RFI, RFP, and RFQ processes related to automation and material handling.
Prepare visual aids like charts or dashboards to communicate findings effectively.
Perform equipment assessments, including performance checklists, safety inspections forms and maintenance tracking sheets.
Conduct time studies or utilization studies for critical equipment.
Assist the engineering team to identify waste using Lean principles of our current operations processes.
Contribute to the design of the network matrix chart that compiles operational metrics, building constraint, etc.
Qualifications
Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in industrial engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field.
Strong interest in operational excellence, engineering, and performance improvement.
Familiarity with automated warehouse or HUB environments is an asset.
Basic proficiency in AutoCAD; experience with simulation software is a plus.
Strong skills in Excel, with a focus on data analysis and attention to detail.
Eagerness to learn and contribute to engineering projects and operations.
Willingness to travel to various stations across Canada for field visits and project support.
Bilingual (French and English) – written and spoken.
Ability to travel to sorting stations independently, using any means of transportation.
