HVAC Technician Role:
The Veterans Hospital in Palo Alto seeks a skilled HVAC Technician to maintain, repair, and operate heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems crucial for patient care and facility operations.
This role ensures optimal environmental conditions in clinical areas, such as operating rooms and sterile processing, and compliance with healthcare safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install, inspect, troubleshoot, and repair HVAC/R systems, including chillers, boilers, air handlers, and refrigeration units.
- Operate and monitor Building Automation Systems (BAS) to regulate temperature, humidity, and airflow in accordance with healthcare protocols.
- Perform preventive maintenance, emergency repairs, and system upgrades to minimize downtime.
- Adhere to safety standards (OSHA, Joint Commission, ASHRAE) and infection control procedures.
- Maintain detailed records of work orders, inspections, and compliance documentation.
- Collaborate with facilities teams to support infrastructure projects and energy efficiency initiatives.
- Respond to after-hours emergencies as part of an on-call rotation.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma/GED; completion of HVAC technical program or apprenticeship.
- EPA Section 608 Certification.
- At least 3 years of experience in commercial/hospital HVAC systems.
- Proficiency in reading blueprints, schematics, and control systems.
- Valid driver's license and ability to pass federal background check/drug screening.
- Knowledge of healthcare HVAC standards (e.g., airborne infection control).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate degree in HVAC Technology or related field.
- Additional certifications (e.g., NATE, HVAC Excellence).
- At least 2 years in a hospital/healthcare setting.
