We are seeking an exceptional Controller to oversee financial operations, ensure compliance with accounting standards, and play a pivotal role in shaping our client's financial strategy. Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, this key leadership position is your chance to make a significant impact while driving operational efficiency and excellence.
As our Controller , you’ll leverage cutting-edge tools like NetSuite, SmartSheet, and Navan to manage work-in-progress (WIP) schedules, forecast cash flow, and spearhead budgeting initiatives. You’ll also collaborate with cross-functional teams, mentor a high-performing finance team, and support strategic decision-making with actionable financial insights.
Must haves :
Ability to relocate to Thompson Falls Montana, to collaborate directly with the financial team there.
Ability to manage WIP schedules for an energy & construction company
At least 2 years working with NetSuite, SmartSheet and ideally also Navan.
CPA or CMA (though we will consider experienced controllers who aren't a CPA)
What You’ll Do
Financial Mastery : Prepare, analyze, and deliver accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with GAAP and industry best practices.
Project Oversight : Manage WIP schedules, track project progress, and ensure precise job costing aligned with financial standards.
Strategic Leadership : Drive the annual budgeting process, support project leaders in bidding and budgeting, and develop financial forecasts to guide long-term strategy.
Compliance Champion : Ensure adherence to federal, state, and local financial regulations, including construction-specific requirements such as certified payroll and sales / use tax filings.
Process Innovator : Identify and implement opportunities to streamline accounting processes, enhance internal controls, and safeguard company assets.
Collaborative Partner : Work closely with HR and Payroll teams to optimize software systems for payroll and job costing.
Team Mentor : Supervise, train, and inspire a talented finance team, fostering a culture of growth and collaboration.
Relationship Builder : Maintain strong relationships with banking partners and manage monthly financial reporting.
What You Bring
Education : Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field (CPA or CMA preferred).
Experience : 5 years of accounting experience, with at least 3 years in the construction or project-based industry.
Skills : Proficiency in financial / project management software and Microsoft Excel; ERP system experience is a plus.
Expertise : In-depth knowledge of construction accounting, WIP schedules, job costing, and cash forecasting.
Leadership : Proven ability to manage and develop a high-performing team while driving cross-departmental collaboration.
Detail-Oriented : Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with a knack for identifying trends and opportunities for cost savings.
Adaptability : Thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment with a focus on delivering results.
