LPN Medical Assistant Duties and Responsibilities
LPN Medical assistants are required to have some background and skill proficiency in the following areas: administrative tasks, a basic understanding of clinical tasks, excellent interpersonal skills, ability to communicate effectively, exceptional attention to detail, and familiarity with digital record systems.
Administrative duties
LPN Medical assistants are responsible for performing a range of administrative tasks, including:
Managing office telephone systems, including answering calls and returning messages
Scheduling patient appointments and maintaining communication to confirm future appointments
Documenting patients' medical information, including medical history and health insurance information
Performing data entry tasks to document patient records within facility databases and maintaining patient files
Coordinating activities, greeting patients, and checking patients in/out for their visits
Always complying with HIPAA regulations
Clinical duties
LPN Medical assistants may be responsible for performing a variety of clinical tasks, depending on the size and needs of their workplace. Some common clinical tasks these professionals do can include:
Recording patients' vital signs, documenting physicians' notes and changes in medical conditions
Taking tissue and fluid samples and sending them in for laboratory analysis
Facilitating virtual visits with physicians during routine checkups and other physical exams
Monitoring and documenting patient symptoms for physicians' review during clinical exams
Providing compassionate patient support and care, attention, and assistance during home visits
Preparing and administering medications under the direction of supervising physicians
Observes patients' health, provides wound care and routine care
Assist in Chronic Care Management
Assist in Pharmacy Program
Build rapport with patients and family
Willing to work telemedicine and in-home visits
Required experience
Professional certifications/credentials from an accredited training program
Preferred two years of experience working in a medical or healthcare setting
Others requirements:
LPN License (pass NCLEX-PN exam)
BLS Certification
Computer proficiency
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Willing to travel, if necessary
Willing to work overtime, if necessary
Bilingual (English and Spanish)
Teamwork skills
Valid Driver's License
