Location: Plymouth, MN
Our client is seeking a Designer who will use computer-based tools to design parts and assemblies, create production drawings, and manage BOMs and product configurators. The Designer will support the team focused on new product development and will also originate, develop, or modify product designs from conception to finished manufacturing documentation assuring quality, manufacturability, functionality, serviceability, and cost has been considered.
Top Skills Required
Experience in sheet metal design
Experience with copper tubing
HVAC products experience is desired
Experience with Solidworks and strong Excel experience
What You Will Do
Create engineering documentation including Solidworks, modeling, fabrication and purchase drawings that conform to client’s standards
Translate engineering/marketing intent into manufacturing working 3D layouts, detailed documentation and Bill of Materials and configurators
Work with VAVE/Product Engineers and Production Engineers to provide 3D models and documentation for original designs or custom modifications of current products
Exhibit a sense of design and mechanical aptitude with abstract thinking and reasoning skills.
Demonstrate creative ability, accuracy, and cost-effectiveness through incorporation into design and configurator work
Provide accurate estimates of tasks on projects and execute to your estimate. Work with project management to consume and communicate additional work estimates as needed
Gain knowledge of design and manufacturing practices, processes, and products.
Demonstrate an understanding of all current and legacy bill of material systems and product structuring logic
Be part of and function in a team environment including cross-functional and inter-departmental teams
Mentor less experienced drafters and designers within the team
Potentially travel to other Minnesota facilities as needed up to 10% of the time

Minimum Qualifications
Vocational, Technical, or Associate of Applied Science degree in design/drafting
3 years of related design experience
Professional work experience with manufacturing practices and processes and product configurations, including basic logic for product or design selection.
Professional experience using SolidWorks or equivalent CAD tools
Understanding of legacy bill of material systems and product structuring logic
Proven Data Mining experience
Experience Managing Data
Strong problem-solving skills
Experience in sheet metal design and/or HVAC products is desired.
