IntePros is currently seeking a Scientist, Protein Expression to join their growing Pharmaceutical client in West Point, PA.
The Scientist, Protein Expression will be part of the protein expression and purification team in the Infectious Diseases and Vaccines (IDVax) department.
This team generates critical protein reagents for internal IDVax programs in support of target discovery and validation in the early discovery space.
The primary focus for this position will be large-scale expression of recombinant proteins and virus-like particles (VLPs) by transient transfection of suspension mammalian cells.
The candidate will work closely with the protein purification and characterization group and report to a lead scientist in the expression group.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain sterile cell culture techniques and protocols.
- Work with mammalian cell cultures, including passaging cells, cell counting, and determining cell density.
- Express recombinant proteins by transient transfection of mammalian cells.
- Analyze proteins using techniques such as SDS-PAGE, Western blot analysis, and UV-VIS spectroscopy.
- Maintain detailed electronic notebook recordkeeping and lab consumable inventories.
Requirements:
- Solid foundation in sterile, aseptic technique and sterile cell culture.
- Experience working in a biosafety cabinet for sterile cell culture.
- Proficiency in protein characterization techniques.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with suspension mammalian cell cultures.
- Experience with large-scale cell culture and bioreactor technology.
- Knowledge of cell culture analyzers and optimized expression conditions for hard-to-express proteins.
Education Requirements:
- MS in biology, biochemistry, or related scientific field.
- Or BS in biology, biochemistry, or related scientific field with 2 years of relevant post-graduation work experience in a scientific setting.
