About This Position

The Strategic & Operations Data Unit is looking for a strategic, data-driven professional with good communication skills, who can work with multiple stakeholders to derive useful insights from data and coordinate the stewardship of data across the organization

What you’ll do

Data Governance And Privacy

  • Engage management and technical stakeholders to define and implement data governance action plans, fostering clear accountability for stewardship of the Bank’s data assets.
  • Implement an enterprise-wide data governance framework, focusing on enhancing data quality and protecting privacy through changes to behaviors, standards, and processes
  • Translate industry trends in privacy and data governance into practical Bank procedures, tailored to the institution’s data maturity.
  • Develop guidelines for managing metadata, taxonomies, and processes to ensure proper use of data that is read, created, collected, reported, updated, or deleted.
  • Ensure that business units, technology teams, and third parties (service providers) understand and comply with IDB's privacy program by responding to privacy-related inquiries, providing guidance on aligning with privacy policy principles, and mitigating privacy risk.
  • Evaluate the status and effectiveness of privacy controls across service offerings, ensuring that privacy-related risk is effectively monitored and mitigated to prevent any negative impact on business objectives and reputation.
  • Evaluate internal systems and processes for efficiency, issues, and inaccuracies, and develop and maintain protocols for handling, processing, and cleaning data.
  • Build a community of practice among data practitioners across the institution to foster ongoing collaboration and knowledge sharing.
  • Translate industry trends in privacy and data governance into practical procedures aligned with the institution’s data maturity.

Data Analytics And Literacy

  • Deliver training curricula to enhance data literacy across the institution, build support for data governance, and strengthen the role of data stewards.
  • Design and implement strategies to communicate and raise awareness of data privacy and related practices, improving privacy protection and policy alignment.
  • Deliver compelling and accessible educational content, including courses, guides, presentations, and other materials, on data privacy, stewardship, and analytics, tailored to a diverse range of internal audiences.
  • Integrate user-focused strategies to drive the promotion and use of BI and analytics tools.
  • Analyze business unit needs through focus groups, surveys, and interviews to identify opportunities, gaps, and drive process improvement.
  • Contribute to the Bank’s data governance program by participating in the design of approaches and supporting alignment to institutional objectives.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to address specific business challenges using data-driven strategies.

Data Management And Data Quality

  • Perform analysis to identify data ownership, as well as data production and consumption.
  • Analyze data to identify and document patterns of errors, and provide recommendations for correction.
  • Provide support in creating data quality checkpoints and internal audit processes.
  • Assist in establishing metrics to guide data quality initiatives.
  • Monitor and resolve data quality issues through regular audits and data profiling techniques.
  • Develop data cleansing and enrichment processes to standardize datasets.
  • Establish automated data quality checks and exception handling workflows to ensure ongoing data reliability.
  • Develop processes for capturing, cataloging, and updating metadata across the organization.
  • Define and implement data lifecycle management policies for archiving, retention, and deletion, ensuring compliance with organizational and legal standards.

What you'll need

  • Education: Master’ s degree in Information Technology, Business Administration, Communications, or related fields
  • Experience: At least four years of experience in data governance and privacy, as well as data analytics and literacy
  • Languages:
  • Proficiency in English
  • Proficiency in English and one of the other Bank official languages (Spanish, French or Portuguese) is required.
  • Proficiency in Spanish and English, spoken and written, is required. Additional knowledge of French and Portuguese is preferable.

  • (IDB/IDB Lab - National) You are either a citizen of XXX or a citizen of one of our 48-member countries with residency or legal permit to work in XXX
  • (IDB Invest - International) No requirements
  • (IDB Invest - National) You are either a citizen of XXX or with residency or legal permit to work in XXX
  • Consanguinity: You have no family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.
  • If consultant (Local Remote Modality): The selected candidate will not provide services from the Bank‚Äôs office and will not be provided a physical space on the premises of the Bank‚Äôs Country Office. The candidate selected will be responsible for setting up the space, and for having the equipment, internet, and phone accesses to accomplish these TORs, outside the Bank‚Äôs office. Access to the Bank‚Äôs systems will be arranged in coordination with the Bank.

  • International: International staff contract, 36 months initially, renewable upon mutual agreement.
