Job Summary:
The Temporary Port Engineer Laborer is responsible for the routine inspection, maintenance, and repair of IFA vessels as assigned by the supervisor. They must be able to carry out line handling, cleaning, painting, maintenance and storm watch, and report all findings to the supervisor.
Credentials:
Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC) Within 30 Days of Hire
Valid Alaska Drivers License
Preferred Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will understand the location, function, operation, and service procedures for all engine department equipment and ship systems. This includes, but is not limited to, batteries, motors, pumps, gear valves, tanks, gauges, indicators, compressors, filters, strainers, main power plants, and fuel systems. Familiarity with the use of tools and equipment is essential, as is knowledge of the layout of engine spaces, normal operating pressures and temperatures of machinery, and the ability to recognize when equipment is not functioning properly.
Candidates must also demonstrate the ability to read, write, and comprehend the English language effectively. Strong interpersonal skills are required, with the ability to interact tactfully and courteously with the general public and fellow employees.
This temporary position is expected to extend from the date of hire until June.
