Inter-Lakes Community Action is seeking a dedicated and efficient Nutrition Assistant to join our team in Watertown, SD. This vital role supports the delivery of nutritious meals to the elderly and children in our community through our congregate meal services, home-delivered meals (Meals on Wheels), and the Head Start Program. About the Position: As a Nutrition Assistant, you will play a key role in our kitchen operations, working closely with the lead cook to prepare and distribute meals that meet the dietary needs and preferences of our participants. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the health and well-being of our community's most vulnerable populations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review and prepare daily menus, ensuring meals are nutritious and prepared according to schedule.
- Record the amount and types of special food items served to maintain accurate records for compliance with State and Federal agencies.
- Estimate and order food supplies, inventory, and equipment as needed, maintaining efficient kitchen operations.
- Step in for the cook as needed, showcasing your culinary skills and ensuring continuity of service.
- Maintain strict adherence to food safety and sanitation standards, including monitoring food temperatures and portion sizes.
- Operate and maintain kitchen equipment and utensils, ensuring a clean and safe working environment.
- Assist in the receiving and storage of inventory, ensuring proper dating and storage of food items.
Qualifications:
- A high school diploma or equivalent; additional certification in culinary arts or food service management is a plus.
- Previous experience in a kitchen or food service setting preferred but not required.
- Familiarity with food safety regulations and a commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness.
- Ability to operate standard kitchen equipment safely and efficiently.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Good communication skills and the ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
