Interact Position Description
Position: Visual Arts Studio Assistant
v Reports To: Visual Arts Department Manager
v Status: Part Time; 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM M-W. Occasional early arrival in mornings and evening/weekend hours.
v Hourly Rate: $21-$23 per hour depending on qualifications
v Involvement with clients: Fulfill all duties as direct support professional. Training is provided.
Position Description:
· This position serves primarily as a studio assistant for an estimated 75 artists enrolled in the Interact Visual Arts program and 7 Staff Instructors. Candidates should have some experience in client care for a vulnerable population. This position is expected to have some administrative acumen to plan and communicate efficiently. We prioritize candidates that have active personal arts practice, as this best upholds Interact’s organizational values.
Key responsibilities:
· Proactively assist in the facilitation of daily artistic programming with department team of other artists.
· Participate in implementing studio activities, including art exhibitions, staffing art gallery during shows; community art events or field trips.
· Assist client artists with their daily artistic needs.
· Participate in all required social services and state licensing training; follow all policies and procedures to ensure clients are always in a safe and supportive environment.
· Candidates must be willing to assist clients with personal needs, including toileting, if required.
· Work retail gallery shifts for special events outside of regular work hours with hourly compensation provided (Fundraising Events, Interact Performances and Exhibitions, Holiday Art Sale, etc.)
Qualifications:
- Experience working in a fully equipped art studio.
- Ability to work collaboratively as a part of a team environment; strong interpersonal skills required.
- Experience in the social services or disability community highly preferred; knowledge of ASL a plus.
- Candidates of diverse backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply.
- All candidates must pass a background check prior to hiring.
- A strong background in Visual Arts is preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Demonstrate communication skills (oral and written) with artists, families, health professionals, community agencies, and units of government. Demonstrated ability to work with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and economic backgrounds.
