As a Full-time Teaching Assistant in Intercept's Fresh Start program, you will serve as a positive role model for students to observe and learn socially effective values, attitudes and behaviors. Provides extra assistance to students with the direction of the Education Coordinator by providing instructional, behavioral and administrative support, and help students master assignments and reinforce learning concepts.
Education and Experience Required: The selected candidate will have a Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university, Prefer experience in a classroom setting with special education students.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Current driver's license.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned:
-Tutor and assist students in a large or small group, or individually. -Provide extra assistant to students with special needs. -Observe students' performance, and record relevant data to assess progress. -Discuss assigned duties with classroom teachers in order to coordinate instructional efforts. -Instruct and monitor students in the use and care of equipment and materials, in order to prevent injury and damage. -Present subject matter to students under the direction and guidance of teachers, using lectures, discussions, or supervised role-playing methods. -Organize and label materials, and display students' work in a manner appropriate for their eye levels and perceptual skills. -Distribute tests and homework assignments, and collect them when they are completed. -Distribute teaching materials such textbooks, workbooks, papers, and pencils to students. -Use computers, audiovisual aids, and other equipment and materials to supplement presentations. -Attend staff meetings, and serve on committees as required. -Prepare lesson materials, bulletin board displays, exhibits, equipment, and demonstrations. -Carry out therapeutic regiments such as behavior modification and personal development programs, under the supervision of special educational instructors or treatment team. -Grade homework and tests, and compute and record results. -Organize and supervise games and other recreational activities to promote physical, mental and social development. -Maintain computers in classrooms and laboratories, and assist students with hardware and software use.
DIRECT CARE: -Interact with all students in accordance with the treatment plan and the therapeutic process. -Maintain therapeutic relationships which do not allow self-disclosure of personal or social information to students. -Terminate student/staff relationship upon students' discharge. -Exercise appropriate intervention in accordance with the least restrictive alternative to protect students from harming self or others. -Administer first aid to students in response to minor medical problems. -Notify Resident Staff Supervisor and/or Program Director of any significant student medical complaint. -Notify Resident Staff Supervisor and Program Director of any unusual events, accidents, medical problems, etc. -Report any property damage or maintenance concern to the Resident Staff Supervisor. -Exercise fair, firm and consistent use of behavioral system (point sheet). -Record accurate and complete information in the student chart. -Use appropriate interpersonal communication skills to gain student cooperation and resolve student conflict.
