POSITION TITLE: Youth Specialist
REPORTS TO: Youth Coordinator
GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Youth Specialist will work within Pinellas County Schools and the Hispanic Outreach Center (HOC) to deliver outreach and intervention services for high-risk and high-need Hispanic youth and families in Pinellas County. The Youth Specialist will work full-time (40 hours/ week). This position involves some evening and weekend hours, which are to be incorporated into the work week non-exempt position.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
· Recruit students for the program in collaboration with school staff
· Attend tabling events to promote HOC services and recruit families to HOC programs
· Facilitate Hispanic Student Support Groups weekly at the middle school assigned
· Promote improved resiliency, problem solving, commitment to school, and self-esteem with Hispanic youth students
· Engage the families of Hispanic students, to provide information, support and referrals, as needed, in the interest of the academic success and personal development of their children
· Assist in supporting the Winning Reading Program at HOC designed to help Hispanic youth students improve reading and writing skills
· Build and maintain school and community support
· Help facilitate the Food Pantry at the middle school assigned and the Food distribution at the Hispanic Outreach Center
· Provide youth development and leadership sessions around post-secondary education, risk factors, and cultural competence with middle or high school students during the evening, bi-weekly, and as scheduled
· Provide referrals and other services to engage the youth and families to be active in the community
· Promote effective communication between family members and students
· Provide and create leadership opportunities for the students
· Maintain participant files, collect data, and enter data according to the procedures of the ICAI
· Enter data consistent with ICAI policies and procedures
· Use surveys and other tools to collect data from families to find areas of improvement and enhancement for the youth program(s)
· Lead and facilitate summer camp at HOC and assist in organizing summer activities for the camp
· Perform other duties as they develop due to program growth or as program objectives grow, shift, or change
· Ability to establish effective relationships with youth, families, community leaders, and school administrators
· Other duties as assigned by Youth Coordinator and/or Director of Community Engagement
Secondary Duties and Responsibilities:
· Drive the agency van to transport participants if needed
· Provide support and assistance to other HOC staff as requested by the CEO or Coordinator
· Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers as needed
· Support organizational events including the yearly fundraiser
Qualifications:
· A High School diploma is required
· Bilingual in Spanish is required
· A bachelor’s degree or working towards a degree is preferred
· One year of experience working with youth is preferred
· Experience working with the Hispanic community is preferred
· Ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with the supervisor and others to solve problems
· The ability to relate empathetically with a diverse group of pre-adolescents and adolescents as well as their parents without bias or prejudgments is required
· A valid FL driver license with proof of insurance, and ability to pass a Level II Background screening is required

Pay: $39,000.00 - $41,000.00 per year
