- Screen and evaluate referred students including selecting appropriate instruments, administering tests, observations, and writing reports which state the evaluation findings and provide for educational program recommendations.
- Conduct risk assessments and Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs) and develop Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) in collaboration with other team members as needed.
- Provide individual and group services to students that emphasize improved educational performance and/or conduct.
- Participate as a member of the multi-disciplinary team and contribute evaluation findings on a student’s educational plan.
- Provide collaborative consultation and documentation of results including assisting staff with suggestions and implementation of pre-referral intervention strategies and modifications to assist staff in working with students in the classroom setting.
- Provide crisis intervention as needed.
- Consult with parents, teachers, and other appropriate staff regarding the student’s progress and any adaptations/materials needed to facilitate improved performance in the classroom or at home.
- Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
- Maintain appropriate data on students to document current levels of performance and other pertinent information. Re-evaluate, as appropriate, to determine extent of progress and effectiveness of therapy.
- Establish and monitor the necessary caseloads, procedures, and resources to manage services to students and staff.
- Coordinate with teachers, support staff, and the leadership team to ascertain individual student's abilities and needs, including students with special needs
- Coordinate with outside agencies, organizations and institutions, including state and federal authorities as needed.
- Adhere to the ethical standards and codes of the profession and to the established rules, regulations, and laws governing special education programs.
- Participate in activities that promote professional development and use clinical/educational research to enhance therapy services.
- Models professional and ethical practices and behaviors in all activities.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- CT Certification Required as a School Psychologist (#070)
- Experience with middle school students preferred.
- Bilingual (Spanish) a plus.
- Bachelor’s degree from a competitive college or university

SCHOOL PSYCOLOGIST
General Scope of Responsibility
Responsible for planning and implementing psycho-educational assessments, counseling and behavioral and educational strategies for assigned students; and for providing ongoing communication and consultation to program staff, parents, other clinicians and outside agencies.
Relationship Within the Organization
The School Psychologist is directly responsible to the Director of Special Education.
