Security Guard

Job Summary:
We are seeking a compassionate and professional Security Guard to join our team at the Interfaith Community Shelter, a safe and supportive space for individuals experiencing homelessness. The ideal candidate will play a critical role in maintaining a welcoming and secure environment for guests, staff, and visitors. This position requires strong de-escalation skills, a calm demeanor, and a willingness to receive training in trauma-informed care.

Key Responsibilities:

• Monitor the premises to ensure the safety and security of shelter residents, staff, and visitors.
• Respond promptly and effectively to incidents, disturbances, or emergencies.
• Use de-escalation techniques to manage conflicts and reduce tensions among individuals.
• Conduct regular security checks of the facility, including entrances, exits, and common areas.
• Enforce shelter policies and rules with empathy and professionalism.
• Collaborate with shelter staff to address safety concerns and implement safety plans when necessary.
• Document incidents, security breaches, or other concerns accurately and promptly.
• Build rapport with residents and create a safe and supportive environment.
• Participate in mandatory training on trauma-informed care and other relevant topics.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Previous experience in security, law enforcement, or a related field a plus!
• Knowledge of or willingness to learn de-escalation techniques.
• Commitment to completing training in trauma-informed care and applying these principles on the job.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to remain calm and professional under pressure.
• Sensitivity and understanding of issues faced by individuals experiencing homelessness.

Working Conditions:

• The role may involve standing or walking for extended periods and exposure to varying weather conditions.
• May require evening, overnight, or weekend shifts.

Preferred Skills:

• Familiarity with trauma-informed care principles.
• Bilingual skills are a plus.
• CPR/First Aid/Narcan certification (or willingness to obtain).

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $20.00 - $24.00 per hour

Expected hours: 20 – 40 per week
