Job Summary:
We are seeking a compassionate and professional Security Guard to join our team at the Interfaith Community Shelter, a safe and supportive space for individuals experiencing homelessness. The ideal candidate will play a critical role in maintaining a welcoming and secure environment for guests, staff, and visitors. This position requires strong de-escalation skills, a calm demeanor, and a willingness to receive training in trauma-informed care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Monitor the premises to ensure the safety and security of shelter residents, staff, and visitors.
- Respond promptly and effectively to incidents, disturbances, or emergencies.
- Use de-escalation techniques to manage conflicts and reduce tensions among individuals.
- Conduct regular security checks of the facility, including entrances, exits, and common areas.
- Enforce shelter policies and rules with empathy and professionalism.
- Collaborate with shelter staff to address safety concerns and implement safety plans when necessary.
- Document incidents, security breaches, or other concerns accurately and promptly.
- Build rapport with residents and create a safe and supportive environment.
- Participate in mandatory training on trauma-informed care and other relevant topics.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Previous experience in security, law enforcement, or a related field a plus!
- Knowledge of or willingness to learn de-escalation techniques.
- Commitment to completing training in trauma-informed care and applying these principles on the job.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to remain calm and professional under pressure.
- Sensitivity and understanding of issues faced by individuals experiencing homelessness.
Working Conditions:
- The role may involve standing or walking for extended periods and exposure to varying weather conditions.
- May require evening, overnight, or weekend shifts.
Preferred Skills:
- Familiarity with trauma-informed care principles.
- Bilingual skills are a plus.
- CPR/First Aid/Narcan certification (or willingness to obtain).
