InterFaith Works has 39-year history of serving seniors by addressing issues of isolation and loneliness that people can experience as they age. The Center for Healthy Aging’s programs and services promote activity, socialization and life-long learning, in order to empower older adults to age with dignity. Our growing list of programs include: volunteer-based companionship and friendly visits for older adults living at home and in Long Term Care Facilities; respite for family caregivers; outreach and assistance to help older adults connect with the resources they need to age well; social activities, case management, and English classes for older New Americans; and Digital Inclusion classes. We also convene the Greater Syracuse Aging Services Coalition, which builds collaborative initiatives to promote social connection, racial equity and economic justice. Our programs reach diverse older adults in Onondaga, Cayuga, Madison and Oswego counties.
Position Summary
The Volunteer Recruitment Coordinator, in collaboration with program staff, is responsible for recruiting, screening and onboarding volunteers to support all programs in the Center for Healthy Aging. The Volunteer Recruitment Coordinator plans and implements outreach activities that increase the number of volunteers serving in the Center for Healthy Aging, builds relationships with key contacts and community members to develop recruitment networks, and creates opportunities for in-kind donations that support the Center’s programs.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree. Experience in outreach, marketing and public relations for the human services or non-profit sector preferred. Experience working with diverse populations of older adults and volunteers preferred. Multicultural competence a must.
Essential Functions:
Volunteer Development
- Understand the intent, participants, and activities of the Center for Healthy Aging
- Develop and implement a Recruitment Strategy to attract new volunteers through various channels, including social media, community networks, job boards, print media, presentations and volunteer fairs
- Work with Program Staff and the Development Team to design and distribute promotional materials to raise awareness of volunteer opportunities
- Develop and deliver tabling and presentations at community centers, faith communities, vendor fairs, and other community locations throughout the service area; some nights and weekends required
- Receive and review volunteer applications, conduct initial interviews, and assess candidates’ skills, interests, and availability to ensure a good fit; filter applicants to appropriate program or areas of interest for training and placement
- Communicate with prospective volunteers, providing them with information about roles, expectations, and the organization’s mission
- Assist in organizing volunteer orientations, training sessions, and ongoing support to ensure volunteers are equipped for success
- Collaborate with the Volunteer Coordinator staff to ensure volunteers are well-supported throughout their service
Partnerships and Community Engagement
- Cultivate and maintain partnerships with community organizations, schools, and local businesses to promote volunteer opportunities and raise the profile of the Center’s program across the service area
- Develop and secure opportunities for in-kind donations that support promotion and recruitment, and that directly benefit the Center’s programs
- Represent InterFaith Works and the Center for Healthy Aging at community events, volunteer fairs, and networking opportunities
- Participate in appropriate community organizations and coalitions that further the work of the Center for Healthy Aging
Data Entry and Database Management
- Track and report on recruitment progress, including volunteer numbers, demographics, and engagement levels
- Collect data to measure recruitment success and identify areas for improvement
- Work with program staff to maintain the volunteer database, ensuring all records are accurate and up to date
- Provide regular Progress Reports to the Program Manager
- Generate reports as needed by the team
- Monitor recruitment budgets, ensuring cost-effective use of resources
- Maintain records of in-kind donations, as required by funders

- Must be able to work with initiative and creativity, and to handle a variety of tasks and responsibilities flexibly
- Must be able to plan and conduct presentations and trainings for up to 25 people
- Possess excellent communication and organizational skills
- Be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; knowledge of Office 365 and SharePoint a plus
- Have an understanding of and value racial equity as an organizational operating principle and is committed to continued learning on issues related to race, equity, diversity, and inclusion
Working conditions and physical demands required:
The demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job:
- Must have personal vehicle for regular travel throughout the service area (Onondaga, Cayuga, Madison and Oswego counties) must be able to travel through the service area 50% of the time or more using personal, reliable transportation, traversing streets, ascending/descending stairs. Exposure to outside weather conditions is common
- Working some nights and weekends required
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position at a workstation and use a computer approximately 25-50% of the time
- Must be able to sit for extended periods attending meetings and training sessions.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $42,850.00 - $48,000.00 per year
