JOB DESCRIPTION
The Kitchen Assistant will work at the Shelter Cove Supported Housing program which is a therapeutic community operating under the tenets of social rehabilitation. The Kitchen Assistant will be responsible for a wide array of tasks related to the preparation and serving of meals and cleaning up of the kitchen and community room. The Kitchen Assistant will work under the direction of the Kitchen Coordinator.

COMPENSATION
$15.50 per hour. Non-exempt; 10 hours/week; Eligible for overtime. Compensation based on education and experience.
REPORTS TO
Kitchen Coordinator.
QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred. Any experience working with food prep, food service, or related fields is helpful, but not necessary. Training will be provided if needed. Good oral English communication skills. Ability to work as a member of a team. Willingness to learn new tasks and techniques.
Drivers license for at least two years and driving record acceptable to insurance carrier. Valid California driver's license; auto in safe operating condition; auto liability insurance; good driving record; criminal record clearance; proof of authorization to work in the United States as required by Immigration and Reform Act of 1986. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the supervision of the Kitchen Coordinator, the Kitchen Assistant will assist with the following duties:
- Assist the kitchen coordinator in the preparation and service of meals.
- Clean up the kitchen and dining area. Tasks include:
- Washing pots and pans.
- Washing dishes, utensils, and implements.
- Cleaning countertops, stove, and appliances.
- Sweeping and mopping floors.
- Assist with shopping for food and supplies.
- Other duties as assigned by Kitchen Coordinator.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to: operate a motor vehicle; climb stairs; possess good communication skills; meet the requirements of the classification and have mobility, vision, hearing and dexterity levels appropriate to the duties to be performed. Capable of the following extended activities: standing, sitting, climbing stairs. Capable of the following intermittent activities: lifting 40 pounds or more Capable of the following intermittent activities: lifting bags of groceries, lifting pots and pans containing hot food, bending to cook and clean, chopping and slicing of food. Ability to learn the use of all kitchen appliances and tools. Ability to pick up and carry tables and chairs.
