The Shelter Manager is one of a two-person team that will supervise and train advocates and case managers working under the victim services program. He or She will share responsibility with another supervisor for taking on-call responsibilities, and manage the schedule and staffing for the 24/7 shelter/hotline staff, the on-call SART and Case Management. This position requires commitment to assisting victims, the ability to lead, positive attitude and strong communication skills while establishing and maintaining professional boundaries, and acceptance of social and cultural diversity.

  • Attend all mandatory staff meetings, program meetings, and trainings required
  • Present a professional demeanor to the community through appearance, communication, and presentation

Essential Functions

  • Supervise the staff and volunteers working under the Victim Services Program
  • Manage the scheduling and staffing for coverage of shifts for the shelter/hotline and SART program
  • Recruit, screen, interview and make hiring recommendations for program positions
  • Update program training manuals and train staff
  • Coordinate training for staff development
  • Hold meetings with program employees
  • Conduct performance evaluations
  • Conduct and document disciplinary actions and make recommendations for terminations
  • Conduct routine evaluations of program and program components
  • Follow federal and state labor laws governing personnel including but not limited to ADA, EEOC, and State of Alaska wage and hour laws
  • Provide on-call support to staff

Program Specific Functions

  • Implement the goals and objective for the Victim Services Program
  • Implement program policies and ensure all program procedures are adhered to standard
  • Ensure confidentiality guidelines are followed in accordance with agency policies, state and Federal requirements
  • Maintain services records and client information in accordance with program policies.
  • Track unmet services requests for all managed programs
  • Make recommendations for policy changes and new policy development
  • Assist in grant reporting for program areas
  • Maintain up-to-date training manuals and program documentation
  • Track community collaborations and meetings
  • Work collaborative with other programs to support IAC’s mission
  • Network with community partners to build collaborative efforts to improve delivery of services
  • Participate in the Fairbanks Prevention Alliance (FPA)
  • Participate in agency community events and meetings
  • Participate in agency fundraising events
  • Ensure staff are providing adequate and relevant residential and nonresidential services and following proper documentation and procedures for all services provided
  • Implement and provide leadership for safety and security protocols established for residential and nonresidential services
  • Implement building and maintenance protocols established for the shelter
  • Oversee and lead weekly case conferencing
  • Oversee survivor support groups facilitation
  • Substitute for program staff as needed
  • Communicate program need to Supervisor
  • Other duties as assigned by the Supervisor

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Services, Social Work or a related field. Job or school experience can be used in lieu of the degree.
  • Experience in supervision and program management
  • Experience working in direct services with marginalized populations
  • Knowledge of the Fairbanks Community and of Alaskan Cultures
  • Understanding of chemical additions and mental illness
  • Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds, cultures and lifestyles
  • Proficient with computers, database input, presentation programming and equipment
  • Experience in meeting facilitation
  • Excellent interpersonal, group, and written communication skills
  • Commitment to agency’s mission and goals
  • Ability to pass a background check
  • Valid AK Driver’s License

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3 years’ experience working in a domestic violence/sexual assault program, or other residential programs
  • 3 years’ experience executing training development, non-profit development or training facilitation
  • 3 years’ experience in a supervisory role, executing conflict resolution, decision making and problem-solving skills.

Supervision: Directly responsible to the Deputy Director

Hours: This job requires a commitment of 40 hours a week and on-call responsibilities for 24/7 program

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $60,500.00 - $65,152.00 per year
