Our Client at AmLaw top 10 firm is seeking an experienced Business Restructuring Associate with 2-5 years of experience to join their team in Chicago. The ideal candidate will have proven experience representing debtors and creditors in bankruptcy cases and distressed situations.
Duties/Responsibilities
Associates in this position will be expected to:
- Support their clients in all aspects of complex corporate restructuring transactions including mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, and debt restructuring;
- Work with partners to represent clients in negotiations, hearings and court proceeding related to business restructuring matters;
- Conduct in-dept legal analyses to assess the legal implications of business restructuring and ensure that all legal activities related to business restructuring comply with applicable laws and regulations;
- Draft chapter 11 filings, term sheets and disclosure statements, plans of reorganization, settlements, and asset purchase agreements;
- Maintain effective communication with clients, creditors and other stakeholders involved in the restructuring process; and
- Stay current on legal developments, precedents, and regulations relevant to business restructuring.
Skills/Abilities
- Qualified candidates must have 2-5 years of proven experience in business restructuring law, with a focus on corporate transactions and bankruptcy.
- Candidates must have a strong understanding of bankruptcy laws, creditor rights and restructuring strategies. Exceptional drafting, negotiation, and interpersonal skills will be essential for effective communication with clients and counterparts.
- Candidates should also be able to successfully manage multiple tasks to meet deadlines in this fast-paced environment.
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and admission to practice in the state of Illinois
- Relevant work experience at a Chambers-ranked bankruptcy department at a large law firm is preferred and candidates with a combination of related work and clerkship experience at the U.S. Bankruptcy Court are encouraged to apply.
Salary $235,000 – $365,000
