Intermediate District 287 is looking for an Extended School Year (ESY) Student Intern!
Summary of Scope of Classification
An Extended School Year Student Intern is responsible for assisting their mentor teacher in facilitating class activities with students and learning more about becoming an educator.

- Must be a current high school or transition student in District 287

Essential Functions
- Access and learn about materials used in the classroom, such as books, manuals, technologies, tests, lab equipment, etc.
- Participate in routine activities with their mentor teachers such as classroom activities, cafeteria and hallway assignments, team meetings, etc.
- Prepare materials for lessons and activities
- Create and maintain a safe, equitable learning environment
- Observe mentor teacher while instructing and planning
Mental Requirements and Stress of the Position:
- Exposure to stressful situations, such as demanding students, visitors, public.
- Must be able to concentrate on work tasks amidst distraction, such as distractions from telephone, customers, co-workers, etc.
- Must exert self control in very difficult situations or when dealing with difficult people.
- Depending upon the student disability, there may be occasions when employees in this job classification may be exposed to student-inflicted situations, or where students are acting out, involving hitting, throwing objects, scratching and hair pulling.
