What are the responsibilities and job description for the MRI Technologist position at Intermountain Health?
Job Description: The MRI technologist is responsible for providing compassionate and appropriate patient care while performing MRI examinations under the direction of a physician to assist in medical diagnosis or treatment of injury.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensures proper patient identification, order verification, and prepares the patient for the exam.
- Performs MRI examinations per department protocol.
- Understands cross-sectional anatomy and demonstrates anatomical positioning competency.
- Critiques own films.
- Completes studies within acceptable time limitations without compromising patient care or the quality of the examination.
- In coordination with the radiologist, selects proper scanning techniques and protocols.
- Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of protocol relating to contrast administration. As ordered by the physician and under radiologist or physician supervision, administers intravenous contrast material to patients.
- Practices appropriate infection control and sterile techniques.
- Operates all MRI equipment and related information systems appropriately to ensure that quality images are produced.
- Views, transfers, archives, and manipulates images.
- Troubleshoots when needed and understands the shutdown and start-up procedures.
- Adheres to and understands the MRI safety policy and the FOUR ZONE concept.
Requirements
- ARRT(MR) or ARMRIT certification, or ARRT(R) certification with at least 1-year full-time experience in MRI.
- BLS certification for healthcare providers.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in MRI or Advanced Radiologic Science.
Work Environment
- Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require verbal communication as well as hearing and understanding spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately.
- Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy.
- Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients.
