Job Description:
Students currently enrolled in an accredited Operating Room (OR) Tech Training program will be integrated into the OR staff; upon completion of the training program, they may be hired as an OR Tech I. This position will perform various duties as a member of the surgical team to assist in ensuring that the operative procedure goes smoothly, quickly and that a safe surgical experience is provided for the patient. This position will function under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and reports administratively to Surgical Services management.This is intended as a temporary position only, with the expectation that employees advance to the OR Tech I position upon completion of an accredited OR Tech Training Program.
Essential Functions
Attends Hospital and Operating Room New Employee Orientations and completes all required paperwork and documentation before starting internship.
Attends scheduled departmental training, completes required training documentation and testing in a timely manner. Completes all mandatory training as assigned.
Maintains good standing with performance (valued contributor or higher)
Ensure room and surgical items meet sterilization criteria.
Maintains sterile field and safe environment.
Under the direction of a certified OR tech, may prepare room and instruments for surgical procedure.
Assist the surgical staff during the procedure, within the scope of practice.
After procedure, cleans room and prepares for next procedure.

Minimum Qualifications
Currently enrollment in an accredited OR Tech training program.
Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare providers.
Physical Requirements
Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.
Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.
Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.
Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.
Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc.)
May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.
