Job Description :

The Cancer Services Research Medical Director will provide leadership and direction for research within Oncology Services. This position will lead the Oncology Clinical Trials Team in evaluation, operation, and execution of clinical research as it relates to all aspects of the Oncology program.

This role will provide direction, strategic vision, and oversight of the building, development, and expansion of research within Oncology Services. Included is the responsibility to pursue the strategic plan that ensures financial sustainability of the program, including growth. This position unifies diverse oncology research including Oncology clinical trials, cancer care delivery research, outcomes research, precision health, and quality improvement projects. This position will work closely with the Oncology Services, Office of Research, Oncology Clinical trials department, and oncology caregivers throughout the entire system to build on common interests and projects, ensure coordination, improve efficiencies, and be involved in strategic allocation of resources. Additionally, this position will be the conduit of information and facilitation between the oncology program and the Office of Research. This position will also help guide and direct research endeavors as they affect future geographic expansion of Intermountain Health.

Position Description :

Provision of medical direction, operational accountability, and oversight of Oncology Clinical Trials, including the Protocol Review and Monitoring Committee and Clinical Trials Stewardship Committee. Provision of medical direction, facilitation, and oversight of grants obtained by oncology investigators, investigator-initiated projects, data requests, and biospecimen collection protocols. Position will be responsible to the Senior Medical Director of Oncology Services.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and clinical expertise in the continued development and expansion of the Oncology Research Program, including the success of the Oncology Clinical Trials program and research opportunities such as cancer care delivery science, outcomes research, precision medicine, and quality improvement projects.
  • Improve coordination of diverse research initiatives and projects initiated throughout Intermountain Oncology Services.
  • Conduct and facilitate Protocol Review and Monitoring Committee and Clinical Trials Stewardship Committee.
  • Communicate with individual PIs on study progress and research interests.
  • Meet with Oncology Clinical Trials team regularly for process review and direction.
  • Interface with Office of Research business operations.
  • Participate on Huntsman-Intermountain Cancer Care Program (HICCP) Steering Committee.
  • Expand and evaluate the application and indications of next generation molecular genomics and cancer therapeutics, including Heredigene discoveries.
  • Increase trial screening rates and system-wide clinical trial enrollment as per the strategic plan.
  • Develop and improve relationships with pharmaceutical companies and cooperative groups, enhancing Intermountain’s engagement in research with both commercial and non-commercial trials.
  • Transition trial portfolio mix to improve financial sustainability.
  • Improve research caregiver engagement.
  • Influence the direction of Intermountain-based research and clinical trials to contribute to publications and disseminate research findings.
  • Develop a knowledge base for clinical work processes or procedures.
  • Direct reviewing, organizing, and summarizing relevant literature.
  • Develop research objectives, projects, and proposals.
  • Seek and obtain extramural funding, as appropriate.
  • Perform independent research, and act as Principal Investigator, as appropriate.
  • Participate, as appropriate, in institution’s decision-making and governance over research, such as IRB.
  • Publish articles in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Create and submit abstracts and present results of clinical research at specialty society and other recognized meetings.
  • Make or contribute to presentations at national and international conferences, or similar events.

Intermountain Collaborative Programs :

Physician shall foster, advocate, and promote collaborative relationships between Intermountain Health and premier collaborative institutions through, but not limited to, the following activities :

  • Work collaboratively with clinical leaders at Intermountain to identify and implement collaborative quality improvement and clinical outcomes and research initiatives.
  • Facilitate research cooperation and data sharing, as appropriate.
  • Work with oncology clinicians and researchers to identify collaborative opportunities for clinical trial development and support research cooperation.
  • Assist in promoting the activities and goals of collaborative institutions.

    Location : St. Vincent Regional Hospital - Cancer Centers of Montana

    Scheduled Weekly Hours : 12

    The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience.

    7.25 - $999.99
