Job Title: Construction Manager/ Field Coordinator
Location: Onsite - Field based locations (75%), Remote (25%); Miles City, MT
Department: Construction Operations
Reports To: Lead Field Coordinator, Project Manager
Position Summary:
The Construction Manager/Field Coordinator oversees and manages field activities associated with the construction and deployment of fiber optic networks. Working closely with contractors, this role ensures timely project delivery and quality control.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as primary point of contact for contractors working on fiber optic construction.
- Conduct regular site visits to monitor progress of construction activities.
- Evaluate fieldwork for safety, efficiency, and compliance with project plans and specifications.
- Coordinate resource allocation across projects with permitting jurisdictions, project management, and contractors.
Project Management:
- Review project schedules and deliverables with internal project management; hold contractors accountable for assigned tasks and build progress.
- Coordinate contractor issue resolution and delay mitigation.
- Track project progress and provide regular updates to stakeholders.
Quality Control and Compliance:
- Verify adherence to IIG standards, local regulations, and safety protocols in field activities.
- Inspect completed work to ensure quality and performance standards are met.
- Collaborate with contractors to address deficiencies or compliance issues identified during inspections.
Permitting and Documentation:
- Obtain necessary permits and approvals before commencing work.
- Lead change authorization process by collaborating with permitting jurisdictions and seeking approvals for changes to permit scopes.
- Maintain accurate records of project documentation, including permits, inspections, change authorizations, and contractor communications.
Stakeholder Communication:
- Facilitate effective communication between contractors, utility personnel, and stakeholders.
- Provide clear updates on project status and potential impacts to affected stakeholders.
Safety and Training:
- Promote and enforce adherence to safety practices and procedures on job sites.
- Ensure personnel, including contractors, are properly trained and equipped.
- Conduct safety audits and report incidents or hazards.
Qualifications:
- Education: Associate's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field; relevant certifications or civil construction experience will be considered.
- Experience: Experience in field coordination or construction roles, preferably within telecommunications or utility industries.
- Skills:
- Knowledge of fiber optic network construction and maintenance practices.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in using construction tracking software and tools.
- Strong interpersonal skills, managing diverse stakeholder relationships.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Knowledge of local regulations and permitting processes.
Work Environment:
- This position requires frequent field visits, travel, and work in various weather conditions and construction sites.
- Flexibility in working hours may be required to accommodate project schedules and deadlines.
