Job Summary:The Assistant Director of Engineering assists the Director of Engineering in the day-to-day functions of the physical plant, maintenance and facilities operations at the South Rim of the Grand Canyon.

Responsibilities
• In the absence of the Director will assume Management responsibilities for the entire maintenance and engineering operation at the Grand Canyon. • Administers the parkwide maintenance program, inclusive of preventive, recurring, and deferred maintenance, asset tiered inspection program, and scheduled and unscheduled repairs. Ensures asset reliability, minimal equipment downtime, and high guest and client satisfaction levels.• Supervises the Maintenance Manager. Monitors and ensures that all maintenance work orders, tasks, and outside service contracts are prioritized appropriately, scheduled, and accomplished in a timely, safe, and professional manner. Ensures accurate labor claiming, accounting of maintenance expenditures by work order, and timely work order closures.• Supervises the department CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) Manager. Works collaboratively with CMMS Manager to manage and adapt the company CMMS to meet the needs of the National Park Service. Monitors data quality. Administers preventive, recurring, and deferred maintenance programs effectively within the CMMS. Coordinates parkwide maintenance procurement transactions to ensure timely and economic procurement of maintenance materials.• Collaborate with department and corporate staff to continuously optimize the CMMS, and introduce innovative efficiencies such as mobile technology, data reporting, end-user work order requesting, and dashboard development.• Assists with creating, monitoring, and actively managing the department budget to achieve business objectives. Oversees maintenance expenditures, including labor cost, to meet the department and property financial plan.• Ensure all NPS-required NEPA and Section 106 compliance is planned, accurately documented, submitted for approval, and programmed prior to execution or work.• Collaborate with property and corporate risk departments, and property training manager, to develop, deliver, and document all safety, health, environmental, and trade-specific training requirements for all employees in the engineering department.• Assists with inspecting maintenance work areas for environmental, health, and safety compliance. Urgently addresses all deficiencies identified through inspections and audits.• Assists with compiling, evaluating, and disseminating all NPS-generated Condition Assessments, Historic Structure Reports, Environmental Audits, and routine NPS inspections and periodic evaluations. Develops and executes action plans to remediate all deficiencies identified through NPS and Company inspections and reports.• Responsible for the execution of all assigned capital projects from conception through completion. Maintain all required project documentation, inclusive of all LSI documentation required for NPS submittals. • Assist with the planning of new facilities, remodels and installation of new equipment using contractors or company staff.• Work closely with various National Park Service divisions on facility maintenance, abatements, and compliance issues.• Assist Director in developing the Company’s annual and 5-year capital plans, annual and 5-year repair and maintenance reserve (RMR) plans, and deferred maintenance cure plan.• Assists Director in the development of the Annual Concessioner Maintenance Plan (ACMP), Annual Concessioner Maintenance Report (ACMR), Planned Personal Property Replacement Report (PPPRR), multi-year exterior and interior painting plan, and other NPS-required plans including landscaping plan, defensible space plan, and snow removal plan.• Ensure that department is complying with all Company, NPS and Federal laws, rules, and regulations regarding HAZMAT, HAZCOM, confined space, lockout-tagout, hot work, elevated work, ergonomics, ADA access and vehicle use.• Comply with all Company and NPS environmental policies and procedures.• Responsible for adhering to Xanterra’s Ecologix program.• Responsible for property-wide Director on Duty, as assigned.• Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s Degree in Building Technology, Construction Management, General Construction, or Engineering is preferred.• Five years of progressive supervisory experience• Knowledge of physical plant operations including boilers, generators, pumps, water/waste treatment, gas/fuel lines and power lines• Knowledge of construction, mechanical and specialized trade skills• Experience with developing and managing financial plans • Knowledge of Service and Federal/Arizona rules, regulations, and laws concerning safety, environmental issues, and risk management• Working knowledge of CMMS applications, including report analysis and action planning based on conclusions• Knowledge and practical experience with applying Historic Preservation guidelines and techniques• Possess or obtain a valid Arizona Driver's within 90 days of start date and comply with the Xanterra South Rim Company Vehicle Policy.
