Internal Medicine of East Haven, P.C., a long-established shoreline medical practice, is seeking an experienced Certified Medical Assistant to join our staff.
This is a full time clinical/administrative position providing physician/PA support, as well as front office support (as needed), in a medical office setting. Professionalism, customer service, teamwork, attention to detail and reliability are critical for this role. Applicant must be able to multi-task, and be comfortable with working in a fast-paced environment....we are a very busy medical office. This is a Monday-Friday position, 9:00am to close (typically between 5:00pm and 5:30pm, but can be earlier or later depending on patient needs). This role reports to the Office Supervisor.
Responsibilities:
Greet patients, check them in & out of appointments, and prep them before physician/PA examinations
Provide quality patient care and positive friendly interactions with patients & coworkers
Must be able to draw blood, process lab-work, and perform Electrocardiograms (EKGs)
Ensure patient charts are up to date and properly documented where applicable
Prep exams rooms & medical lab at start of shift with necessary supplies, and check/restock them throughout the day
Clean & sterilize exam rooms/medical lab & all medical equipment after each patient visit
Keep inventory of medical supplies & vaccines and report them to Office Supervisor when re- order is needed
Prepare specimens & associated paperwork to submit to labs for testing (as directed by physician/PA)
Instruct patients on how to collect their own sterile specimens when required
Liaise with laboratory providers for any processing/billing issues if/when required
Periodically check all medications, including samples, and appropriately dispose of expired medications
Call patients to confirm their appointments
Complete medication refills
Obtain most updated information from patients before in-office or telemedicine appointments, and process patient annual registration packets
Verify patient insurance plans prior to services being rendered, and collect patient balances both in person and via phone
Scan documents and sort incoming faxes
Education/Certification:
High school diploma or equivalent required
Must be a Certified Medical Assistant
Experience & Competencies:
Previous experience working in a medical office/facility required
Must be able to draw blood and process labwork
Sufficient physical ability and mobility to move around office, sit/stand frequently, stoop/bend/reach
Must be proficient in use of electronic medical records (EMR) systems; experience with eClinicalWorks (ECW) a major plus
