Job Overview:
We are seeking a reliable and hardworking Paint Prep Helper to join our vehicle painting team. In this role, you will assist the primary vehicle painters in preparing vehicles for painting by performing various tasks that ensure a smooth and efficient process. The Paint Prep Helper will contribute to the overall quality of the finish by ensuring that all prep work is done accurately and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities:
- Wash and clean vehicles to remove dirt, grime, and grease before prepping for paint.
- Sand and smooth vehicle surfaces to ensure proper paint adhesion.
- Mask off areas of vehicles (e.g., windows, trim, tires) to protect them from overspray.
- Apply primer or filler to surfaces as needed and ensure even application.
- Assist in mixing paint and other materials for the paint process.
- Remove old paint or rust from vehicle surfaces using appropriate tools and techniques.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, including cleaning tools and equipment after use.
- Assist with the setup and breakdown of paint booths or work areas.
- Support painters in any additional tasks required to ensure a quality finish.
- Ensure that vehicles are moved to and from the prep area safely and efficiently.
- Follow safety protocols, including wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) and handling chemicals properly.
- Assist with other duties as assigned by the body shop manager or lead painter.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience in an automotive or paint-related environment preferred, but not required.
- Basic knowledge of auto body preparation techniques, tools, and materials is a plus.
- Ability to follow detailed instructions and work effectively as part of a team.
- Physical stamina and ability to lift, bend, and stand for extended periods.
- Attention to detail and the ability to recognize areas that need special attention before painting.
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and a willingness to learn.
Preferred:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Familiarity with safety standards and proper handling of painting materials.
Working Conditions:
- Work in a shop environment with exposure to chemicals, paint fumes, and dust.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical tasks.
- Some overtime may be required based on the workload.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $19.00 - $23.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
