HEAVY INDUSTRIAL ALUMINUM EXTRUSION Work Environment and Physical Requirement for Maintenance Tech B.
Hands on upkeep of maintenance repairs in a Heavy Industrial Aluminum Extrusion Plant in a position performing maintenance necessary to keep plant equipment, machinery, and tools in good operating condition. The work involves a wide range of methods and procedures on a variety of routine and non-routine duties to adequately and properly diagnose, dismantle, repair, lubricate, and reassemble equipment. Troubleshoot mechanical assemblies to determine whether a pump, gearbox, hydraulic system, or pneumatic system can be repaired, or needs to be replaced. Ability to decide whether to replace or repair worn parts and amount of lubrication needed
Typical work week Monday through Friday 8 to 12 hours per day and Saturday’s 8 hours. Repetitive. Ability to climb ladders, reach, squat, tolerate prolonged standing/walking, balance, bend, operate mobile equipment, crawl, kneel, and push and pull objects.
Extrusion department Maintenance Tech B. Daily TASKS:
Ø As a Maintenance B Tech. must be very visible daily on the plant floor. The approach should be to work and support Extrusion Department.
Ø Ability to function successfully in a fast-paced, changing work environment.
Ø Understand production & operation needs, able to work overtime & weekends as needed.
Ø Ensures all maintenance work follows safety standards, conforms to specifications, and is completed in a quality manner
Ø Extrusion Department Maintenance PM’s due on shift and dates.
Ø Maintenance repair calls and work orders to be completed in a reasonable time.
Ø Work with Chem Treat. adding recommended chemicals dosages for the boiler, cooling towers and chillers. Requires Moving 55-gallon drums safely
Ø Analyzes re-occurring problems and identify true causes. repair root causes to reduce unplanned downtime.
Ø Work with Casey Spears Engineered Packaged System Service implementing recommended CHILLER PM Program.
Ø Work with Contractors on installing new or repairing old equipment.
Ø Work with contractors performing maintenance work that is specialized or to extensive to be performed by the in-house maintenance staff.
Ø After completing assigned PM work inspected it for workmen ship and safety than hand off back to operation.
Ø Maintains work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition.
Ø Keep all parts area organized .
Ø Perform Pipefitting; install and repair air lines and hydraulic piping.
Ø Periodically inspects conditions of plant operating machines and equipment for preventative maintenance purposes.
Ø Perform Routine mechanical, electrical, welding or machining maintenance activities on all extrusion department equipment’s including lubrication.
Ø Interface with Maintenance Supervisor & Process Engineering to ensure site compliance with safety and regulatory i.e. arc flash, fire extinguisher checks, Paint Line sprinkler system.
Ø Daily ensure that all critical process are working properly.
Ø For all critical to function spare parts such as press seal pumps fittings & accessories prepare periodic Inventory requesting to have spares ordered.
Ø Services pumps, gear boxes, motors, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems as needed.
Ø Knowledge to perform the following maintenance disciplines: AC/DC motors, gear box mechanics, lubrication principles, welding, cutting torch, NFPA 70E, pumps, gearboxes, hydraulic & pneumatic systems, stick and tig welding, rigging principles. and common maintenance hand tools.
Ø Complete & track all work orders in a timely manner.
Ø Maintains specified records of work performed, details of repairs, and material usage.
Ø Position, fit and weld components to assemble structural forms, machinery frames, plant equipment, attachments or accessories. Utilizes various specialty cutting & welding equipment.
Ø Other Duties as directed by Maintenance Supervisor.

Participates in and completes company-required training programs.
Reviews, safety related issues and work requests completed in a timely fashion.
Frequently lift and/or move up to 75 pounds, without assistance.
The employee will push and pull up to 450 pounds.
Regularly required to Walk & Stand in the Extrusion & Maintenance departments covering an area approximately 500,000 Square Feet.
Frequently exposed to environmental conditions; in a heavy industrial environment with temperatures exceeding 110 degrees.
Working in areas where noise levels can reach 120 decibels. Hearing protection is required.
Perform sustained and repetitive overhead reaching & work in cramped quarters and heights.
Compliance with and safety rules/guidelines for all tasks being performed.
Ability to climb and work from ladders, knowledge and ability to work in confined spaces.
Operate a variety of maintenance equipment in a safe and effective manner.
Work at heights greater than 40 feet.
Knowledge of all company safety data sheets and adheres to all PPE requirements.
