Logistics Specialist Description
The Logistics Specialist manages inbound and inter-branch shipping logistics, carrier and 3PL agreements and terms, maintains accurate ETAs in IGF’s ERP, manages inter-branch shipment schedules, and leverages opportunities to improve efficiency and lower cost.
Job Responsibilities
- 1. Arranges inbound product deliveries, including pick-ups (backhauls), via air, ocean, and road transit
- a. Follows Replenishment Specialists’ guidance
- b. Refers to information on purchase orders (POs)
- 2. Accurately tracks inbound shipments and updates PO ETAs in IGF’s ERP
- 3. Liaises with IGF’s Customer House Broker for import clearance
- 4. Arranges logistics for shipments between IGF locations
- a. Maintains a regular shipment schedule
- b. Coordinates scheduling changes
- c. Resolves issues
- 5. Manages carrier costs and compliance:
- a. Identifies and tracks price increases
- b. Annually renegotiates rates
- c. Ensures carriers’ compliance with IGF business requirements and local, federal, and international transportation and food safety regulations
- 6. Works with the Replenishment Director to:
- a. Secure the best terms with carriers and forwarders
- b. Identify consolidation and other cost-saving opportunities in transportation
- c. Communicate shipment changes with the Receiving team
- 7. Works with Vendor Relations Director to:
- a. Determine the best shipping arrangements with vendors, including who pays
- b. Leverage forwarder relationships for cost savings
- 8. Contributes to the team by performing other work as necessary
- ∙ Minimum three years of experience in high volume warehouse
- ∙ Previous experience in logistics with a focus on transportation, shipping receiving, imports, inventory control, and warehousing
- ∙ Customer service experience in international logistics preferred
- ∙ Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite, especially Dynamics, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams, and Word
- ∙ Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- ∙ Attention to detail and finely tuned time management skills
- ∙ Bachelor’s degree or equivalent preferred; a degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, or a related field is a plus
- ∙ Team player: a collaborative approach to work, with a willingness to support team members as needed; ability to work with individuals from diverse cultures, backgrounds, levels, and roles
