One of the oldest and largest human services organizations for New Americans in the region, IINE serves more than 9,000 people each year in Boston and Lowell, Massachusetts, and Manchester, New Hampshire. Our programs include case management, youth and family services, English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), employment and skills training, and immigration legal services.

Overview

The Education Manager develops and oversees culturally competent, student-centered curricula to support the Site’s ESOL courses. Supervising the Education team staff including Admissions Specialists, Education Advisor, and ESOL Instructor(s) as needed, the position ensures that there is a cohesive, results-oriented, and consistent program for all clients engaged in educational programming, including coaching and referrals to continuing education opportunities. This position hires and supervises staff, monitors daily/weekly/quarterly activities, and consistently evaluates Admissions and Education processes. This position will ensure familiarity and compliance with contractual obligations and is responsible for ESOL program performance outcomes and all program data recording and management.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise Education staff including Admissions Specialists, Education Advisor, and/or ESOL Instructors.
  • Manage and ensure contract quality and compliance for all components of IINE’s ESOL contracts.
  • Achieve or exceed assigned ESOL targets annually.
  • Assess client progress through pre- and post-testing, according to contract requirements.
  • Oversee program enrollment tracking, eligibility, and outcomes for all Education contracts.
  • Work in partnership with Community Services and Employment Departments to ensure appropriate referrals and program enrollments.
  • Meet with clients across departments to advise them on educational opportunities, including post-secondary transitions.
  • Attend regularly scheduled Staff Meetings, Manager Meetings, and weekly Client Disposition Meetings.
  • Assess, evaluate, and improve program effectiveness and outcomes to ensure responsiveness to participants’ needs. Conduct formal and informal class and advising session observations to provide feedback.
  • Maintain all client case notes and program data, including attendance, in relevant in-house and contract-supported databases, ensuring that progress towards contract targets is tracked; maintain weekly performance tracker. Ensure supervisees’ client data is entered accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Contribute to contract reports (qualitative and quantitate) as assigned.
  • Plan and conduct weekly Education Program meetings.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of all program and contract reporting outcomes and performance measures.
  • Attend training for certification of Best, Best Plus, and TABE as needed.
  • Support the ESOL instructor(s) in attending trainings.
  • Perform all other duties assigned by supervisor.

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Highly-focused individual capable of managing multiple assignments, including leading quality assurance while routinely producing accurate program analysis and reports.
  • Knowledgeable of emerging best practices in ESOL education, as well as local education opportunities to foreign-born populations.
  • Compassionate and patient personality who is committed to ensuring the highest quality programming and student satisfaction.
  • Excel at client documentation and capable of modeling similar performances with staff and interns.
  • Strong writing and computer/database skills with demonstrated experience preparing reports.
  • Ability to successfully prioritize and execute work responsibilities. Ability to work independently as well as with colleagues.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and data management software platforms.
  • Excellent organizational, verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidential information about client or staff.

  • Access to reliable transportation

Education & Experience

  • MA in Education or related education field preferred.
  • Minimum of two years of program management and staff supervisory experience.
  • Experience administering standardized tests such as Best, Best Plus, and TABE

Work Environment Conditions

  • Requires occasional night work.
  • Exposure to bright, overhead office lighting, use of office technology such as laptops, printers, mail machines, and other in-office equipment.
  • Frequent interactions with students and colleagues.

Physical Demands

  • Occasional lifting, pushing, and pulling materials (boxes, equipment) of 50 pounds or more.
  • Continuous sitting (or standing) at a desk for long periods of time.
  • Occasional driving to and from IINE offices as needed.
  • Frequent bending, reaching overhead, and reaching at or below shoulder level required.

Covid-19 Policy

IINE does not require applicants for most positions to show proof of Covid-19. Some federal contracts, however, require IINE staff to show proof of Covid-19 vaccination, and some immigration status adjustments, such as a Green Card, require proof of Covid-19 vaccination as well. Consequently, for some positions, IINE staff may be required to show proof of vaccination, and in others, IINE staff will be supporting clients who are required by law to have proof of vaccination in order to adjust their status in the United States.
