What are the responsibilities and job description for the Computer/ESOL Instructor position at International Institute of St. Louis?
The Computer Instructor establishes the best possible learning situation for refugee/immigrant clients in a multilevel classroom of adult learners. The Computer Instructor incorporates current teaching techniques, subject area developments and up-to-date technology providing a variety of classroom experiences including small group instruction, teacher-directed instruction, and self-paced instruction to meet the needs of the learner. Areas of instruction are specifically geared toward computer basics starting from zero and progressing to intermediate level with the outcome of navigating a professional job search.
The hours for are 16 per week comprising classroom, prep, data collection & reporting and recruiting. Classroom hours are M/T 3:30-5 pm & 5:30-7:00 pm; W/Th 11:30 am-1 pm & 3:30-5:30 pm.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's Degree, minimum
- 2 years of curriculum design in ESOL and computer-based instruction
- 2 years of experience teaching computers to adults of various levels of proficiency
- 2 years of experience teaching ESOL to adults of various levels of English
- Robust knowledge of principles and techniques of computer instruction, platforms and programs
- Bachelor's Degree in STEM education with a strong emphasis in computer science or similar certification, preferred
Duties/Responsibilities
- Provide culturally competent, equitable client services with minimal supervision
- Provide classroom and remote instruction and administer assessment in accordance with grant requirements
- Develop and implement curriculum to span the entirety of computer instructional needs for the following courses: Fundamentals of Computers, Computer Basics 1, Computer Basics 2, and Online Job Application Lifecycle Course.
- Prepare comprehensive lesson plans that meet learners' needs
- Complete required paperwork (lesson plans, attendance records, test results)
- Administer student evaluations and monitor client progress and goals as required by funder
- Create, maintain, and submit timely and accurate client records and input data into Client Track the state-wide MO-RAP database and an additional agency database
- Assist in creating and implementing client recruitment and retention plan in conjunction with counterpart in the Workforce Solutions Department
- Assist with recruiting volunteers as needed
- Train, supervise and effectively engage volunteers as needed
- Attend meetings and trainings
- Perform other appropriate duties as assigned

- Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft 365, Zoom, and WhatsApp.
- Familiarity with a broad array of topics related to computer science and current platforms and programs
