As a Refugee Resettlement Caseworker, you will have the opportunity to make a tangible impact on the lives of refugees who have experienced displacement and hardship. You will be instrumental in fostering a safe and supportive environment for their successful resettlement in St. Louis, MO.

The purpose of the Refugee Resettlement Caseworker is to provide intensive case management services primarily during the first 90 days from a refugee's date of arrival. You will provide direct support and guidance to refugees, helping them access essential services, find housing, enroll in English language classes, and navigate the complex resettlement process. You will be key to ensuring their smooth integration into the community.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Welcome newly arriving refugee families and individuals in order to help them get off to a great start in building their new lives; this position is the first point of contact for our newly arrived families.
  • Case management and reporting
  • Provide community orientation, advice, and assistance in addressing basic needs.
  • Maintain regular communication with clients through phone calls, emails, and office visits.
  • Identify and address barriers to successful resettlement, as necessary.
  • Assess refugee individual and family needs.
  • Encourage participants to work towards self-sufficiency and early employment, recruiting qualified clients for the Match Grant Program
  • Perform home visits and evaluations during resettlement period.
  • As appropriate and needed, provide client transportation using own vehicle.
  • Maintain and complete detailed and accurate records of client files, case notes, and reporting records.
  • Provide interpretation as needed for resettlement department staff and clients.
  • Work within a diverse staff team; providing services across departments.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all client information
  • Perform other appropriate duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Ability to diffuse client complaints/conflicts.
  • Ability to make quick, sound decisions.
  • Understand and adhere to professional boundaries.
  • Ability to prioritize, effectively manage multiple projects concurrently, and take ownership of work.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, as necessary.
  • Must be meticulous, but able to maintain a balanced perspective in rapidly changing business circumstances.
  • Ability to work productively in a multicultural environment and demonstrate respect for differences.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook, and Microsoft 365.
  • Ability to effectively communicate in English both orally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of community resources
  • Fluency in a language spoken by the current refugee population is highly preferred. (Amharic, Arabic, Dari, French, Kinyarwanda, Nepali, Pashto, Somali, Swahili, and/or Tigrinya; preferred)

Other

  • Work occasional weekends and nights.
  • Must have a car and valid driver's license with proof of insurance.
  • Willing to obtain a MO chauffeur license.

Education and Experience

  • Two-year degree in relevant Human Service field required or equivalent experience in social services or other relevant area.
