Status of Appointment : Contract (Malaysian only)
Basic salary : between RM2,878.00 to RM10,075.00 (depends on experience)
Area of specialization : Planning law, housing, governance, urban design, regional economics, traffic, transportation
and infrastructure.
Department : Urban and Regional Planning
Kulliyyah (Faculty) : Kulliyyah of Architecture and Environmental Design
Location : Gombak
The officer should also undertake moral and religious obligations in relation to his colleagues and students as part and parcel of his duties as a member of the academic staff of IIUM.
The officer shall attend meetings of IIUM Authorities, Boards and Committees to which he, being an academic staff member, may be appointed as a member by virtue of the IIUM Constitution or any Statutes or Acts, or of any administrative actions of the Rector, Dean or Head of the Kulliyyah/Centre/ Department.
The officer is also expected to participate in the general life of the IIUM community.
The officer is also expected to advise and guide students in relation to their character, behaviour and moral conduct. In short, he is not only a teacher (Mu'allim), a scholar ('Alim) but also a moral educator (Murabbi).

3. Key Responsibilities
- Preparing and delivering lectures, tutorials, and studio-based learning in Urban and Regional Planning and related disciplines.
- Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate students in research and design projects.
- Collaborating with other academics and lecturers to improve teaching methods and expand knowledge base.
- Setting and grading assignments, tests, and exams.
- Conduct high-quality research aligned with the department’s focus areas and publish in high-impact journals.
- Actively engage in curriculum development, ensuring alignment with IIUM’s mission and Islamic values.
- Participate in industry collaborations, consultancy projects, and community-based programs.
- Contribute to administrative tasks such as student advisement, committee work, and faculty meetings.
- Support departmental initiatives, events, and accreditation processes.
- Attending and participating in meetings, conferences, and other events in and outside of the institution.
- Providing support to students and other colleagues. l. Staying current by reading widely and producing published work in the field.
- Minimum Qualifications
- A Ph.D. in related field from a recognised local or international institution of higher learning.
- Be a Corporate Member of Malaysian Institute of Planners (MIP)
- Be a Registered Town Planner with Lembaga Perancang Bandar Malaysia (LPBM)
- More than ten (10) years of working experience in the related field.
- Previous teaching and professional working experience.
- Actively publish in articles or newspapers work is preferable.
- Research work would be an advantages
- Specialisation or expertise in planning law, housing, governance, urban design, regional economics, traffic, transportation and infrastructure is preferable.
- A strong research portfolio, with a list of publications in high-impact journals over the last five years.
- Other Requirements
- Ability to inspire students with your passion.
- Flexibility, resilience, and willingness to work long hours
- Strong interpersonal, presentation, and written and verbal communication skills
- Relevant teaching experience is an advantages
- Relevant industry experience in town planning, transportation and urban design is an advantages
- Excellence in AutoCAD is preferable
- Language Qualifications
- Credits in Bahasa Malaysia and English Language (including oral examination) at Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) level OR equivalent qualification recognized by the Government (for Malaysian citizens).
- IELTS Band 6 / MUET Band 4. Candidate without any of these qualification will be required to sit for the IIUM English Language Proficiency Test.
