Key Responsibilities
- Assist teachers in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays
- Help maintain a neat and orderly classroom environment
- Support students with physical needs, such as transferring to and from wheelchairs, lifting and positioning, and assisting with personal care
- Manage mild behavior incidents and respond to extreme or dangerous behaviors that pose a risk to self or others
- Work with students to develop motor skills and conduct instructional exercises assigned by teachers
- Supervise and assist students during school activities, including lunchroom, bus, and playground duty
- Keep teachers informed of special needs or problems of assigned students
Requirements
- 48 earned college credits, associate's degree preferred
- Or high school diploma if formal academic assessment is passed as required by ESSA
- Ability to work with children with disabilities
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Two years of experience working with children
Working Conditions
This position requires frequent standing, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting. The employee may be exposed to noise, biological hazards, and inclement weather. The mental demands of this role include working with frequent interruptions and maintaining emotional control under stress.
