What are the responsibilities and job description for the Emergency Response Technician - Per Diem position at International Matex Tank Terminals?
The Emergency Response Technician is responsible for the Compliance Fire Prevention and Protection at IMTT Bayonne.
Responsibilities
Respond to everyday activities concerning chemical handling, PPE, and general terminal Emergency Management issues. Including firefighting, spills, and rescues as well as responding to employee concerns and issues for life safety.
Maintain all fire related equipment in good working condition.
Conduct and attend regular emergency response training, drills involving on-site, and off-site as needed.
Conduct and maintain compliance required inspections, oversee response equipment, testing, calibrations, and recordkeeping as needed.
Assist in confined space entries and HAZMAT operations on-site or off-site
Must attend and participate in Meetings such as : Mutual Aid, EOC, LEPC, and USCG.
Education and Experience
High School Diploma or equivalent
Valid Driver's License
TWIC (Transportation Workers Identification Credentials) for access to IMTT's terminal locations.
Firefighter 1 & 2
NIMS 100, 200, 700, 800, ICS 300, and 400.
Fire Instructor 1 (preferred not required)
Valid CPR / First Aid
Haz-Mat Technician Level
Good Knowledge of OSHA, NFPA, and USCG Codes
Record of regulatory, health, and safety training
First Responder EMR
Confined Space Rescue Technician
Skills and Abilities
Clear and concise written and verbal communication skills in the English language.
Ability to understand written and verbal communication in the English language.
Ability to make decisions in a variable environment.
Ability to communicate with all other terminal departments.
Ability to type.
Phone and personal etiquette.
Must be neat, detail oriented, organized, conscientious, and thorough.
Must be an assertive self-starter who can work with minimal supervision and direction.
Must have working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Power Point.
Must be able to work in a demanding team environment that is challenging and sometimes stressful work environment.
Must have two (2) years' experience responding to hazmat, fire, and medical emergencies. Cross training and experience in other emergency response functions is strongly desired.
Must be able to manage the day-to-day operations in the absences of the Fire Chief.
Must be knowledgeable with NIMS and ICS models.
Must be able to meet the minimum ERT Physical Requirements
Hours of Work
Typical hours of operation are Monday through Friday 6 : 00 am to 2 : 30 pm.
This position requires overtime and occasional weekend work as job duties demand.
Occasional travel may be necessary, sometimes with little or no advance notice.

The large scale of the operation and the extensive layout of the facility require that the applicant can walk and stand on uneven terrain, climb stairs and ladders, and traverse inclines : uphill, downhill, or mixed. Furthermore, because the facilities and adjoining facilities handle hazardous materials, the applicant must be able to ingress and egress in foreseeable emergencies. The applicant must be able to work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others.
Must be able to work in a confined space, over water and not be afraid of heights.
Ability to wear and use a respirator and any other safety equipment
Ability to work overtime as needed
Ability to operate heavy equipment is preferred.
Equipment used in job performance include company vehicle, fire apparatus, two-way radio, emergency response tools, and safety equipment.
