Position Overview
International’s Central Systems and Architecture team develops system level requirements for International’s vehicle functions, as well as defines vehicle network, functional and communications architecture constructs. The Electric Vehicle (EV) Functional Architect, will be responsible for assisting in the definition of the EE Architecture including, but not limited to, functional allocation, messaging definition and module I/O allocation.
As an EV Functional Architect focusing on Electric Vehicle (EV) design, you will be responsible for functional architecture, decomposition, system design, integration and validation. Your role will involve collaborating with cross-functional teams, including product managers, HMI designers, and engineers, to ensure technical functionality, quality and alignment with industry best practices. Key responsibilities within system development include battery management, motor control, and power distribution network.
This position will be located at International’s design center in Lisle, Illinois. Occasional support may also be required at International’s test and production facilities, as well as occasional onsite support at suppliers and customers.
Responsibilities
Architectural Design:
- Develop and define the functional architecture for Electrical Engineering systems, ensuring alignment with project goals and industry standards.
- Create and maintain system architecture diagrams, models, and documentation to guide the design and development process.
Requirements Analysis:
- Collaborate with stakeholders to gather and analyze system requirements, including technical specifications, business needs, and user expectations
- Translate requirements into functional and technical specifications for system design.
System Integration:
- Design and oversee the integration of various electrical and electronic components within the system, ensuring seamless operation and interoperability.
- Development and documentation of messaging constructs (ex: CAN).
- Address and resolve integration challenges, ensuring system performance and reliability.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Work closely with hardware engineers, software developers, and other technical teams to ensure cohesive system design and implementation.
- Act as a liaison between different engineering disciplines to ensure that functional requirements are met and potential issues are addressed promptly.
Performance and Optimization:
- Analyze system performance and identify areas for improvement.
- Implement optimization strategies to enhance system efficiency, reliability, and scalability.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation for functional architecture, including design specifications, test plans, and system integration guidelines.
- Compliance and Standards:
- Ensure that system designs adhere to relevant industry standards, regulations, and best practices.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology or Computer Science
- At least 12 years of experience in product design/development or new technologies and/or computer science experience
- At least 2 years of experience leading new technologies or specialized technologies
OR
- Master’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology or Computer Science
- At least 8 years of experience in product design/development or new technologies and/or computer science experience
- At least 2 years of experience leading new technologies or specialized technologies
OR
- PhD in Engineering, Engineering Technology or Computer Science
- At least 5 years of experience in product design/development or new technologies or specialized technologies and/or computer science experience
- At least 2 years of experience leading new technologies or specialized technologies
Additional Requirements
- Qualified candidates, excluding current International Motors employees, must be legally authorized on an unrestricted basis (US Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident, Refugee or Asylee) to be employed in the United States. Desired Skills
- Experience in architectural functional areas, such as Functional Safety (ISO26262), Vehicle Communications and Network, Cybersecurity
- CAN and SAE J1939 development and debugging experience (LIN and/or Automotive Ethernet a plus)
- Vector CANalyzer/CANoe, MS Visio experience
- Experience with requirement documentation and system engineering
- Embedded hardware design and development experience
- Experience with Vehicle, Powertrain or Engine Controls System design
- Experience with engineering and quality design and development methodologies: (8D, FMEA, DVP&R)
