Patient Financial Advocate
International Revenue Recovery Group, Inc. is a growing healthcare company that supports a culture of teamwork and collaboration to assist international patients in resolving their outstanding medical expenses.
This position is responsible for assisting patients in coordinating their travel insurance or other payer benefits, including self-pay to recoup costs for our hospital clients, while assisting patients with their outstanding account balances. The Patient Financial Advocate serves as a liaison to other team members, hospital and international payer staff to facilitate claims submission and follow through to disposition/resolution. This individual is an advocate for both patients and hospital clients by working to ensure that patients effectively utilize their benefits, and hospitals receive the reimbursement to which they are entitled.
Essential Duties and Tasks include:
- Contacting patients to identify potentially eligible coverage or private pay
- Securing necessary insurance information to determine eligibility and benefits
- Completing and forwarding all necessary forms and electronic documents
- Updating all systems as appropriate
- Performing aggressive follow up with insurers and other identified payers
- Monitoring claim status while communicating effectively with multiple constituencies including patients and families, international agency caseworkers, hospital clinical and business office staff
- Along with other duties as assigned
Skills /Requirements:
- Prefer 2-5 years of related hospital or medical billing experience. Education may substitute for lack of experience
- Experience in patient financial services or medical billing in a hospital business office is highly desirable
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to understand questions from patients and/or clients is essential
- Excellent customer service skills with the ability to effectively disseminate technical information
- Computer data entry or word processing skills and ability to operate routine office equipment is required.
- Working knowledge of computer programs, i.e., Microsoft Excel, Outlook, etc.
- Experience working within medical EHR programs such as Epic or Cerner highly desired
- Must be able to type at least 30 wpm.
- Associate degree. Additional experience may substitute for education
Bachelor’s degree desirable
Bilingual English/Spanish desirable
Salary: DOE
Pay: $19.00 - $22.00 per hour
