Metallurgical Engineer - comm'l heat treat
Critical metallurgist role for an established heat treat with a nationwide footprint and across various industries.
Responsibilities:
- Possess excellent analytical, computer, observation and communication skills.
- Train employees about the various materials/metals, their characteristics and general heat treat principles.
- Be knowledgeable of the function and operation of heat treating equipment and processes.
- Interface with customers to analyze their needs & to provide specific recommendations.
- Perform quotes after customer request HT.
- Properly prepare documentation and detailed records of processes / procedures / requirements to meets customers’ needs.
- Provide Technical Support to customers regarding services and processes offered by Nitrex and performances of old/new alloys submitted by customers.
- Review customer purchase order(s), specification(s), print(s), etc. and create a Job Card(s) with a sequenced processing plan.
- Work in conjunction with the Production Manager, Quality Manager and shop personnel to ensure accurate job card planning and that Job Cards are followed.
- Coordinate with Production Manager to assure timely processing of jobs.
- Interface with all shop and lab personnel while customer’s jobs are in process.
- Manage the laboratory techs., lab procedures and provide technical assistance.
- Train lab personnel in the proper use of metallurgical testing equipment, requirements and procedures.
- Work in conjunction with the lab to ensure effective evaluation of heat treat process, characteristics and certification of part analysis/requirements.
- Coordinate with Q.A. Manager to ensure that product is conforming and meets all requirements.
- Assist with identifying non-conformances and participate as required in corrective actions.
- Comply with all Quality System procedures and participate in internal audits.
- Participate in employee training.
Requirements :
- Education and/or a relevant college degree in Material Science, Metallurgy or its equivalence may be accepted in lieu of specific skills noted above
- Annual Vision Exam required (per Rolls Royce SABRe & RPS900 Requirement)
- Training, equivalency, or on-the-job experience is required in the following: Calibration Procedure, Lab Procedure and Processing Procedure
