What are the responsibilities and job description for the Certified Medical Assistant position at International SOS Government Medical Services?
This Position is Contingent on Contract Award.
Under the direction of the National Medical Director physician supervisors and advanced practice providers and in collaboration with the Office of the Chief Medical Officer (OCMO) of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) contracted Certified Medical Assistants deliver healthcare services to persons in custody in accordance with the polices and protocols listed in the Statement of Work (SOW) and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) directives for the delivery of healthcare services to persons in custody.
Certified Medical Assistants work to assure delivery of quality healthcare services in accordance with the SOW for the medical services contract within medical units at U.S. Customs and Border Protection sites including Office of Field Operations (OFO) ports of entry U.S. Border Patrol Border (USBP) Stations. Performs the clinical responsibilities as agreed upon by the National Program Director.
Contracted medical staff will be working alongside uniformed Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Agents / Officers in secured federal facilities along the southwest border of the United States. These secured federal facilities are staffed and monitored by CBP personnel and / or contracted security staff 24 hours a day 7 days a week to assure a safe working environment to include the colocated medical unit. Contracted medical staff work together with CBP personnel to provide health care services for persons of all ages to include infants children adults and pregnant females.
MISSION
CBPs Office of the Chief Medical Officer (OCMO) employs a trauma informed care model to provide frontline medical care for persons in CBP custody in accordance with Enhanced Medical Support Efforts CBP Directive (2210004). This model provides a team of medical professionals comprised of physicians advanced practice providers (e.g. physicians assistants nurse practitioners) and support staff (e.g. Licensed Practical / Vocational Nurses Paramedics EMTs Certified Medical / Nursing Assistants). These contracted medical teams provide basic assessment and medical treatment for persons in CBP custody to include emergency care as needed.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Initiates and maintains compliance with DHS and CBP policies federal regulations and any overriding accreditation standards that may apply.
- Maintains compliance with standard operating procedures and protocols.
- Maintains patient confidentiality and privacy of medical records.
- Performs record keeping functions in accordance with program policies and the system of records management.
- Utilizes the electronic medical record and must maintain an active status for use and complete all required trainings.
- Utilizes the electronic medical records system for all documentation to include but not limited to all patient care monitoring medication administration / observation documentation and input or scanning of any paper records as applicable.
- Maintains noninvolvement in the security aspect of patient care and custody.
- Attends general staff meetings and participates with medical quality management initiatives and reviews as applicable.
- Assures a safe and clean working environment and assists in the disposal of biologically hazardous waste on a regular basis.
- Performs quality control of laboratory reagents collects specimens and performs CLIA waived testing.
- Completes all annual training as directed.
- May be required to travel.
- May be required to serve at various medical units within sector / region.
- Provides care and treatment of patients throughout the life span as appropriate to discipline and medical unit setting.
- Is expected to respond to medical emergencies for persons in custody visitors or employees within the scope of their license and certifications until emergency services arrive.
- Obtains medical history performs interviews and completes all necessary charting requirements including vital signs on patients entering the facility. Any medical concerns or questions are referred to the Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Physician or EMT.
- Assists with gathering patient information or data during routine medical care.
- Assists with minor care treatments or procedures under the guidance of the APP Physician or in assistance of a EMT or Paramedic.
- Performs care through consultation with covering physician or APP to work within the guidance of Standing Orders or Protocols set in place by a physician.
- Participates as a member of the healthcare team to ensure that needed equipment supplies and logs are available clean functional maintained completed and up to date as applicable.
- Completes and passes all discipline specific competencies testing initially annually and as required.
- Works within the scope of their license and certifications performing direct patient care as directed or indicated.
- Provides direct care to patients that may include :
- Assistance with feeding and / or meal set up
- Assistance with basic hygienic measures and / or activities of daily living
- Assistance with ambulation or transfer for those injured of with disabilities
- Vital signs and interview
- Participates with Medical Quality Management initiatives processes audits studies or committees as required.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned within the scope of their license and certifications.

American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for health care providers
Course components must include Adult Pediatric and Infant CPR Foreign Body Airway Obstruction and Automatic Defibrillator (AED) proficiency

Pay range is based on several factors and may vary in addition to a full range of medical financial and / or other benefits. Final salary and offer will be determined by the applicants background experience skills internal equity and alignment with geographical market data.
Compensation Min : 16hr Max : 35hr
