What are the responsibilities and job description for the Concept Lead, Air and Thermal Comfort (min 5 years exp required) position at International WELL Building Institute (IWBI)?
The International WELL Building Institute (IWBI) is in search of an expert in air quality and thermal comfort who is interested in transforming health and well-being with our people-first approach to buildings, organizations and communities. You?ll be part of the Standard Development team advancing the WELL Building Standard (WELL Standard), a library of holistic evidence-based strategies for improving human health and well-being.
In this role, you will ensure that the WELL Standard aligns with the latest industry and scientific research, meets the needs of diverse users and raises the bar for healthy, high-performing buildings around the world. Today, thousands of projects encompassing approximately 5 billion square feet are applying the WELL Standard across more than 125 countries.
RESPONSIBILITIES : WELL Standard
Conduct literature and technical reviews on methodologies for improving indoor air quality and thermal comfort in buildings.
Evaluate new air cleaning technology and IEQ monitoring products to assess their alignment with the requirements of the WELL Standard and program.
Enhance the WELL Standard?s Air and Thermal Comfort concepts by researching, proposing and executing updates and additions to the strategies within.
Performance Testing
Keep the WELL Performance Verification Guidebook aligned with the latest industry best practices for on-site testing and continuous monitoring of indoor air quality and thermal comfort parameters.
Support education and advancement of the WELL Performance Testing Agent community through quarterly briefings and regular technical training covering on-site testing procedures for WELL?s Air and Thermal Comfort concepts.
Evaluate pathways to streamline the way that sensor platforms can report IEQ data to WELL.
Customer Support
Strengthen client and consultant ability to implement WELL by developing educational resources for project teams.
Provide client-facing responses to technical inquiries from IWBI?s global customer base.
INDUSTRY LEADERSHIP
Convene, manage and lead two advisories, one each for WELL?s Air and Thermal Comfort concepts. Advisories include 15-30 health experts and building practitioners brought together to advise on the evolution of the WELL Standard. This involves organizing quarterly conference calls to discuss and solicit technical advice, feedback and guidance on the evolution of WELL.
Establish and maintain existing relationships with global scientific and industry associations.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES, AS NEEDED :
Manage and / or participate in other departmental projects related to the WELL Standard and program.
CANDIDATE PROFILE & PREREQUISITES :
Bachelor?s degree or equivalent in a relevant field (e.g., Architecture, Engineering, Environmental Hygiene, Sustainability, or similar technical specialty in IAQ)
At least 5 years of professional experience working at a design, engineering, architecture, or sustainability consulting firm or with other relevant organizations within the IAQ industry
Knowledge of IAQ design / testing / monitoring practices, industry trends, building systems, and construction project development processes
Experience with sustainable and / or healthy building programs
Exceptional written and oral communication skills : concise, confident, inclusive, and genuine.
Strong sense of commitment, and ability to work under pressure in a dynamic, deadline-driven team environment.
Strong analytical abilities and problem-solving skills; a passion for continuous learning.
High level of integrity and strong interpersonal skills.
CANDIDATE PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :
Master?s or Ph.D degree in a relevant field (e.g., Architecture, Engineering, Environmental Hygiene, Sustainability, or similar technical specialty in IAQ)
Professional Engineer (PE), Registered Architect (RA), or equivalent
Demonstrated field experience in on-site testing, installation, or commissioning of IAQ systems in buildings
Prior presentations at conferences, summits, or similar thought leadership experience
Proven record implementing or developing building certification systems
POSITION DETAILS :
Position : Director, Concept Lead
Junior - Mid Career Professional (at least 5 years of experience)
Salary range : $75,000 - $125,000 annually
Location : New York City Office or Remote (Eastern Time Zone Preferred)
Status : Full-time, benefits eligible
Weekly Work Hours : 40 hours / week (9 am - 6 pm ET)

Compensation : The annual salary range range for this position is expected to be $75,000 - $125,000. IWBI is committed to pay equity and any offers extended will be contingent on a variety of factors including internal and external parity as well as the specific experience and qualifications of the selected candidate.
