The Digital Modernization Sector has a career opportunity for a Network Engineer supporting the Global Solutions Management – Operations II (GSM-O II) contract at DISA. This contract includes the Operations, Sustainment, Maintenance, Repair, and Defense of the Defense Information System Network (DISN) within the DOD Information Network (DODIN) in support of the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA). It also includes support to other key tasks for DISA, including the transformation of DISA’s operational mission through innovation, and support to DISA’s mission partners.

While this role is primarily remote one must live within commuting distance to Scott AFB, IL or Ft. Meade, MD for on-site support. A Secret clearance is required and within 14 days following the start date the employee must obtain their Security certification.
POSITION SUMMARY
This network engineer will support the sustainment and ongoing development of the DISA Software Defined Networking (SDN) solution.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist in the design, development, test, implementation and sustainment of SDN components.
- Support troubleshooting, incident and problem management as necessary.
- Apply working knowledge of technical domain to develop solutions to routine technical problems.
- Apply security related configuration updates and system hardening measures to program network equipment.
- Update and maintain network diagrams and systems documentation.
- Brief changes and planned changes to management, team members, and the customer.
- Collaborate with GSM-O request fulfillment and engineering teams to obtain network configurations / templates for various services and implement them in lab environments.
- Verify and validate SDN / NFV / Orchestration solutions by integrating them into the GSM-O SDN lab environments.
- Travel to customer sites as needed to support SDN and NFV infrastructure deployments.
- Periodically validate SDN database by collecting data from various sources including configuration management databases (CMDBs), live router configurations and other data sources.
- Make and renew SDN port reservations periodically in the CMDB.
- Validate IPT-PE Location and POC Identification.
- Inspect router configurations and compare with templates and baselines to determine router readiness for SDN integration.
- Communicate configuration requirements for new capabilities to the software team.
